What Aircraft Is This?

As an amateur ground-based member of the sapiens family who wishes to fly like a bird occasionally, I am stumped identifying this aircraft in this video. Can anyone fight my ignorance?

It is the black-fuselage-with-red-trim bird, and it looks like it would be fun to fly.

As a side note, I am watching "Airplane Repo" on TV. What a fun job that must be!

I would have said a PZL M28 Skytruck; the type is in service with the Luftwaffe. But the cockpit seems wrong.

Missed Edit: Forget that, I would say its a variation of the OV10 Bronco, which the Germans use as a target tug, with the exception of the fact that the Duetchland Broncos have been long retired.

Yes, OV-10 Bronco. The USMC unit I belonged to, 3d ANGLICO, would parachute out of those. OV-10 water jumps were fun to see — the plane would fly low and fast over the water, parallel to the deck, and at the jump point the pilot would pull up hard. The OV-10 would climb at a steep angle, nearly vertical, and at the designated altitude the jumpers would drop out its ass end. The OV-10 would then peel over and fly away. Fun to watch, but no fun for me since I transferred to an artillery unit before I could go to jump school.

That is one ugly plane.

The fact that it’s part of a flight of two suggests that they were off on a mission to get some in-flight photos (or video) of the Honda Jet. At 2:25 in the video you see a rear view of the OV-10, showing what looks like a photographer facing aft.

So I Googled “Honda Jet alps” and came up with this link, which indeed shows that same jet over the alps.

Wow. Thanks for the quick replies. I noticed the Deutchland insignia markings and in one shot someone sitting in the ass-end of the bird. I just never saw this plane before in all of my aviation watching.

I was also surprised to see HONDA inscribed on the engines of the trailing jet. Do they make jet engines, or was that a marketing gimmick?

Thanks again dopers. You guys rock!

(Laughing) So ugly that it is beautiful in a way that defies logic.

Definitely a Bronco. (I made a Revell model kit of one when I was a kid - in Vietnam-era USMC livery, I think). Here are some other pics of Luftwaffe Broncos similar to those in the video:

Thanks Xema. I had no idea Honda made business-class jets. (I have two of their generators though ;)).

I may need to get out more and visit some airports, but with tourist season being over here, I may have to wait until spring.

Thank Elendil’s Heir.
What a world we live in. Connected by a few electrons and discovering there is an actual website celebrating the OV-10 Bronco. Originally from July 1965. I was just a wee lad about then

Me, too! I recognized it from the little snippet in the “You may skip this ad in…” button.

The engines are made by GE, to Honda’s specifications.

Me three! I recognized the OV-10 right away.

Officially they are made by GE Honda Aero Engines, a joint venture between GE and Honda. But your statement might be closer to reality.

I disagree. When I was a kid who built airplane models, the OV-10 Bronco was one of my faves.

Bumped.

There’s a good article about the Bronco, “A Low, Slow Plane for Limited War,” on pp. 12-13 of the April issue of Naval History. Worth a read.

Click on “SHOW MORE” on the video page. All the information is there.

Oh yeah! The Bronco is one of my “win the lottery big time planes”. Nice 200 mph cruise, strong power to weight and you just can’t beat that visibility! Now for those winning numbers…

Broncos were ground attack planes, too.
