Okay, ongoing problem with Napster downloads. I was finally able to record my first bunch after getting help from the SDMB.
Then I downloaded another disc-full and tried to record. No luck; got an error message. Made a couple more coasters, trying various things, same result.
Converted the files to .wav files and the disc apparently recorded. Tried to play it in my home system and got the equivalent of a blank look.
Stuck the disc in the computer drive, Roxio came up and tried to play it. Indeed, it showed that the disc was playing, but no sound was coming out of the speakers (which function just fine).
What could possibly be wrong? I’m about to cancel the entire service.
I’m having a bit of a stressful day waiting on a job position to close. This has been an ongoing positioning thing that’s been in process for several weeks, so I’m somewhat nervous about it. The Napster problem was just a catalyst for anger and stress. I should know not to post when stressed or angry.
That’s OK. My apologies for pitting you, which now I feel was an over-reaction. If there was actually any responses in the pit thread I’ll ask the mods to close it.
The funny (and fortunate, come to think of it) aspect of this is that I apologized before clicking on your pit link. That probably would have resulted in an unfortunate exchange of unpleasantries.
On a related note, now I happen to be having a bit of trouble with Napster that may be related. I haven’t tried to burn anything, but it installed some burning software that required 2 (!) reboots, and now I have four new drives listed in Explorer that weren’t there before. Dunno if this is related to your problem, but with what you described and what I’m seeing it looks like the burning software with Napster is kinda hinky. Perhaps there will be some patches of something that will help us both out.
Is this a hijack? I hope not. My Dell came with a Media Player, which I used to load a ton of music onto my hard drive. For a while I was happily burning CDs. Then, it started to kick the cd out mid-burn. Then my hard drive crashed. After I replaced the hard drive the burner still acted like this, so after a long frustrating phone call to Dell, I loaded a new version of Media player, guaranteed to fix all my problems. Now I can’t burn CDs, DVDs won’t play, and it took an hour to load a CD onto the hard drive last night. I feel like there is a vast conspiracy trying to discourage me from using my computer to stand in for a stereo. Any ideas?
Back to the OP - I had the same problem where the burning software was not writing the table of contents to the CD (thinking you may want to put more stuff on the CD later, which you can’t do once you burn the TOC on to it.) I got better burning software that let me specify whether or not I wanted the TOC burned on the disk as well as the songs. Haven’t had a problem since.
