What am I tasting? (TMI for the squeamish?)

I burnt the roof of my mouth the other day and it has almost completely healed. But if I touch the new smooth skin with my tongue, I can taste something. It’s a little tangy. I’ve noticed this before, but never really wondered what I was tasting, until today.

I might be completely insane, but am I tasting something? Does new skin put out a chemical or something?

You’re tasting various plasma exudates, mostly proteins and electrolytes. Maybe some red blood cells too, so there may be a bit of hemoglobin taste. That’s the coppery tang of blood, FYI.

So I might be completely insane, but this isn’t evidence of it?

Thanks for the fast reply. I can go gloat to my husband now.
