What anime should I be watching

So I’m looking to expand into more anime but there are so many and seem to cover every genre. So I’m looking for recommendations. I don’t like overly dramatic, emo style anime and the two anime I really like are dragon ball and yu yu hakusho so stuff like that would be great.

Hmm…90s, shonen, action-y… Not my favourite subset, but, I’ll give it a shot…

I’d suggest Inu Yasha…or, for a more comedic take, the same author’s earlier Ranma 1/2, or Urusei Yatsura. (Her other series are further from what you’ve liked than those three.)

Bleach is of a more recent vintage, but pretty similar in feel.

I hardly watch anime. I enjoy Miyazaki, Satoshi Kon, and a few other film-makers, but not many shows. I would, however, recommend:

Death Note - a really neat show. I binged it last summer and loved it. It’s not perfect, but a very good show.

You like manly action j-cartoons, eh? Well, there’s “Fist of the North Star” and “Jo Jo’s Bizzare Adventure.”

“Golgo 13” might be up your alley too.

“Bleach” is awful, BTW.

Oh, if you have any affection for the Batman cartoon, “The Big O” is basically that but with big mechas.

I’ve been watching Erased but I haven’t finished it yet. What I’ve seen has been excellent. One caveat. A lot of animes have no real ending, usually because they are based on a manga that is still being written. I’m pretty sure that is not the case for Erased but if I’m wrong I’ll be truly annoyed.

Dragon Ball was supposed to be Journey to the West. Have you seen Saiyuki? It’s a hoot, although the first thirteen or so episodes are the worst animation I’ve ever seen. Then I guess they got more money because things improved to a pretty good level.

bible black and bible black the new testament … takes some guts to watch them heh only thing I didn’t like about big o is I figured out the big secret about 4 eps in when they discovered the subway …

Bible Black is hardcore porn, so you may not want to search that at work.

Oh, there’s also “Monkey Magic” a much straighter adaptation of JttW, directed by the famous artist, Susumu Matsushita.

Not really the genre of anime that I’m into in general. But maybe Narutaru, which is a little like Pokemon, except instead of trying to “catch 'em all” the kids are using their creatures to try to kill each other and conquer the Earth.

I enjoyed the first season of My Hero Academia, which is on Hulu. It’s a mix of anime and classic superhero tropes. Similarly superhero-themed but more violent is One-Punch Man, also on Hulu. Both of them have a lot of humor, even if the hero in the first is a little insecure sometimes.

Full Metal Alchemist, maybe.

If so, go with FMA: Brotherhood, not the first one.
Nobody said Cowboy Beebop?

You’re a funny guy.

How about Trigun? Or Inuyasha?

Report back if that guy ever manages to defeat his evil brother.

Good point. I am not at all interested in perverted anime.

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood (already mentioned several times)
Hunter x Hunter
Gurren Lagann
One Punch Man

No need to thank me, I have more.

I forgot to mention, Hunter x Hunter is created by the same person, Yoshihiro Togashi, that did YuYu Hakusho. There are a lot of strong similarities between the 2 shows while still being unique in their own right.

well that disqualifies like 85% of all anime lolz jk jk, kinda am seeing a bunch of action/adventure animes, ever watch some of the slice of life/awkward silly ones? or is that not ur jam ^^;?

Another recommendation for Inu Yasha—as a webcomic once put it (amusingly, if a bit caustically), “it’s just ‘Dragonball Z’ for girls!”

My peak anime-watching period was 15 years ago but here is what I liked:

Cowboy Bebop: this used to be the standard entry point for people who were new to anime. Just an all-round great show with memorable characters, varied plotlines, exciting action scenes and ,not least, some terrific music. The first few episodes are a bit slow but it gets better and better right up till the spectacular climax. The movie is good too.

Most anything by Studio Ghibli. Not just the well-known Miyazaki films but also Takahata and some of the other stuff too.

Jin-Roh: the wolf brigade. It’s been a while and I have to re-watch it some time but this was a great noirish thriller.

Anything by Satoshi Kon. I have seen two of his films but all four have gotten good reviews.

Evengelion: Didn’t care for the famously weird last few episodes but liked it till then. See if it pull you in.
