What app is making annoying sounds on my Android?

It’s a little melody, just a few beeps (but it sounds like boops). It occurrence is irregular, I guess it is some kind of update, but it is not Facebook or Twitter for instance.

I’ve had my Android about a year and it started about a month ago. It is so annoying that I usually have my phone on silent these days.

I very seldom install new apps, and I’ve uninstalled a few that I suspected made this noise.

I know it is probably impossible for you to know which app is tormenting me, but is there a way to know which apps make sounds on an Android?

In App Manager, there seems to be no setting for “Make sound” that one can turn off. In desperation I’ve turned of notifications for most or all of the apps.

But the sound keep coming, it woke my wife up in the middle of last night, so you know situation has become serious.

ETA: Oh, of course it musn’t be an app, but I guess it is, because it spontaneously occurred, and I haven’t messed with the settings AFAIK.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Thank you for your reply. I don’t think I have in quite some time. I’ll try that and report back.

I had a similar experience and it turned out my wifi notification had somehow turned on. Maybe check your native apps?

The problem with OP, and questions like OP, is that there simply is no single answer.

Any number of configuration items can generate boops, beeps, and even complete snippets of music. Depending on how the Android system and the assortment of apps are configured in the specific case.

So, I hope you have small expectations that we’ll be able to solve your issue. Because your configuration is quite possibly unique compared to anyone else’s. All we can do is offer suggestions.

[li]Application-specific notification noises (like Facebook or games) – check all the applications that routinely run in the background to update themselves and see if you have notification noises configured “on”[/li][li]System event notification noises (like network availability or battery events) – usually managed through either that system thing’s settings panel or through the overall system sounds settings panel[/li][li]Communications-related notifications, like for SMS or missed call. Usually managed through the system sounds setting panel, but maybe on a settings page associated with the communications event instead.[/li][/ul]

Lots of possibilities. You’ll have to go digging.

Try Settings - Sound - Volume. On my phone there is a slider for Notifications. Try sliding that one all the way off.

The downside is that doing that will probably also disable things like text alert notifications.

It’s weird that there isn’t a notification in the tray to correspond to the sound… Which makes me think that it’s probably a widget.

You sure there’s nothing in the notification tray to correspond to the sound? If so, scrutinize any widgets you have on your home screens.

Thank you all for your tips and suggestions. I think I’ve identified the culprit.

Immediately after I logged in after the restart brolovone suggested, there was this sound. Since I stared at the phone at that very moment, I was able to catch one word from the very small and very fast notification in the upper end of the screen, and it was “equalizer”.

So I promptly uninstalled the equalizer I installed some time ago. This was twelve hours ago and I haven’t heared the sound since, so I’m quite sure I killed the right app.

The equalizer was from Small Android Apps, LLC. I do not recommend.
