What are Momma and Poppa Clinton grooming Chelsea for?

As for what she’s being groomed for–Well, what she has been groomed into already is a person who is comfortable in the public eye and knows how to handle a variety of situations. I’ll bet Bill and Hillary would like her to go into politics, but it’s Chelsea’s choice, and I’d also bet that they respect that fact.

What he said, not just in this last paragraph.

A “colder” answer is she has been “groomed” to become a high-earning person in a public-prominence position, which is what I expect two hard-driven types like Rodham and Clinton would do for their child were they in presidential politics, or corporate executives.

What, the Adamses, Rockefellers, Kennedys, Prescott-Bushes, can inhabit the circles of power across the generations and place their children on the right track to be a part of it, but if the Clinton-Rodhams try it it’s suspicious?

She got past the awkward stage and grew into a lovely, intelligent, accomplished, and poised young woman. This didn’t stop the negative comments, however. The poor girl had been branded a “dog.” One of the most famous illustrations of this was the “joke” told by John McCainat a Republican fund-raiser in 1998:

I have to agree with this. She seems remarkably normal and well adjusted for the very public family drama and abuse she’s taken.

She is working or was for a somewhat iffy (iffy in terms of whether it’s a real player in the financial markets or a vanity project) hedge fund run by a big Clinton donor. It’s safe to assume her job description involves little exposure to the details of high finance. In fact I think her job description was “be Bill and Hillary’s daughter.” Her annual reviews in that capacity are uniformly excellent.

Prior to her hedge fund work, she worked at management consulting firm McKinsey. They’re pretty legit.

It sounds like she’s on the typical ‘overachieving rich kid’ career track. Basically, go to the top schools, get good grades, spend a few years getting some legitimate job experience and then go work either in the family business, a friend of the family’s business or vanity projects.
