The Spanish version, Esperanza, is a tiny town near the Rio Grande in the high desert of the Trans-Pecos. It was named after a nearby tobacco farm. The owner had to have a lot of hope to think he could grow tobacco there.
There are several Esperanzas around the world, including one on Puerto Rico and three in the Philippines.
