What are some good threads about the WTC tower 7 collapse?

I have neither the intellect on this issue to start a debate nor the ability to search this site. So I’m wondering if anybody could help me find a good thread debating what the deal is with the ambiguous (to say the least) collapse of the twin towers and more specifically tower 7, which probably should not have collapsed at all. Which of course leads to massive questions that I probably don’t want the answer to (could you imagine the US government destroying the towers? I almost don’t want to know if they did it, too horrifying).

Interesting post, I had an encounter in the pub Fri night with a guy who made the same argument vis a vis Tower 7. He rambled on and on about thermite markings on steel and the like. He seemed put off when I loudly called to my buddy Paul, telling him to “Come hear the conspiracy wacko!”

Seriously, Paul and I started asking him where he got his info and telling him we had never met a real live Zionist/US Govt/OilNaziCabal in real life!

He wandered off and bothered some other people before leaving but I had to admit that I did not have the detailed information to soundly refute his ignorance. A better poster than me would make up a post with an appropriate title and links to the relevant threads.

There are several good links in the Latest WTC/9-11 Conspiracy GD Thread.

You might also want to read this article from Popular Mechanics. WTC Tower 7 is covered starting on page 5. The author wrote the book “Debunking 9/11 Myths” and the article is basically a condensed version of the book.

No, we can’t imagine it. Well…maybe in a work of fiction, like a Tom Clancy thriller, perhaps. But in the real world? Nope. Which means it’s a good thing you posted here.

In a nutshell, WTC7 collapsed because (1) debris falling from the main towers compromised about 25% of the building’s integrity, and (2) a giant fire raged unchecked for several hours, fueled by diesel tanks stored in the building’s basement. The “controlled demolition” nature of the collapse is simply because very, very tall buildings tend to collapse in that manner, as opposed to tipping over, because of the massive forces involved. (Gravity tends to pull in a straight line, after all.)

This type of conspiracy theory also completely ignores the way controlled demolition works. To bring down a large building takes weeks of planning, stripping walls to bare steel, planting and connecting charges, etc. It can’t be done in several hours, especially in what’s essentially a war zone at the time.

Then read this critique of the *Popular Mechanics * article. Notice they color code the claims of Popular Mechanics into three catagories: claims debunked, claims not analyzed, and claims supported.
