What Are Some Songs That Begin With The Chorus?

Shamefully, I must admit that, at the moment, I can only think of two.

Miracles by The Jefferson Airplane. I’m pretty sure this song is one of the more obscure in the TJA canon, but a classic rock expert I am not, and I could be wrong.

Uppers and Downers by Aliotta Haynes Jeremiah. My dad led me to believe that AHJ was a local Chicago band and never got big outside of the Windy City and/or places within an afternoon’s drive (such as Springfield, where Dad and I lived). But see my disclaimer about my knowledge of classic rock above.

The first two that come to mind:

The Beatles, “Strawberry Fields Forever”

Kansas, “Carry On Wayward Son

Queen, Fat Bottomed Girls

(FYI, “Miracles” was one of Jefferson Starship’s (not Jefferson Airplane) biggest-charting songs, and still gets a lot of airplay on “classic rock” format stations.)

Bill Withers, Ain’t No Sunshine When She’s Gone

Bawitdaba by Kid Rock

Sweet Emotion, by Aerosmith?

To the extent that “Sweet emotion, sweet emotion” serves as a chorus, yes.

Bob Marley, “No Woman No Cry”.

Bob Marley, “I Shot the Sherriff”.

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, “The Ship Song”.

Several early Beach Boys songs. It was kind of their signature.

The Beatles’ “Tell Me Why,” “Baby’s in Black,” "The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill, " “Strawberry Fields Forever,” “Cry Baby Cry,” "Good Day Sunshine. "

“Tell Me Why” came to me immediately because it’s been stuck in my head all day. The Beatles seem to employ the technique regularly. I’m sure I’m missing some.

“The Long and Winding Road”

“If You Wanna Be Happy” - Jimmy Soul
“Let’s Go Get Stoned” - Ray Charles
“Hit The Road Jack” - Ray Charles
“(Night Time Is) The Right Time” - Ray Charles

She Loves You, Can’t Buy Me Love, Another Girl, Don’t Let Me Down. I forget the band.

Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love A Bad Name.”

More by the group we cannot remember (The Bagels? I dunno):

I’m a Loser
Help!
It Won’t Be Long
You’re Going To Lose That Girl

mmm

Tubthumping, which is almost all chorus.

Sorry. It just popped in there.

“Photograph,” by Ringo Starr & George Harrison

“Get Ready for Love”, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

“Brick House”, The Commodores

“Edge of Seventeen”, Stevie Nicks

“Any Way You Want It”, Journey
