What are the likely outcomes/scenarios in the Ukraine war that the US is working towards?

There’s a lot of discussion on what Putin may or may not do next in the Ukraine war. Recent wars have shown that the US is not very good at planning out exit strategies. Is that the case again ?

If Putin continues in his current position, it will be worrisome for the US. If Putin goes, it may even be more worrisome for the US with Russia unraveling. While the other threads are talking tactics, I’d like this thread for strategizing what the end game would like in this war.

You seem to be confused, OP. The US is not at war in Ukraine.

Fair enough, but isn’t that a part of the problem ? That the US thinks too late about the exit strategy.

Anyways, if it makes more sense, lets talk about the best outcome in terms of US perspective of the Ukraine War.

The question still doesn’t make any sense. The US is supplying resources to Ukraine – weapons and military intelligence. The US is not managing any warfare “strategy” or goals. That’s up to Ukraine.

We would need to execute an entrance strategy first.

Exit strategy:

  1. Putin leaves office via death or health issues

Give new leadership a fairly easy way out of the war. Help rebuild the Ukraine into a solid NATO member. Help new Russia rejoin the world. Try hard to get them into the West.

  1. Russia breaks down into civil war over failure of Ukraine adventure

Look to help stabilized the country but we’ve never really got this right anyway.

  1. Putin uses Nukes

Oh shit, oh shit. Maybe the Apes or Raccoons will do a better job than we did.

Thanks @What_Exit - that’s the sort of scenario planning I am looking for.

But that’s not really an exit strategy, it’s dealing with real world politics. Exit Strategy implies needing to get troops out of a campaign, which doesn’t apply here. Do we have an exit strategy for the Yemeni civil war? Do we need one?

Would end-game make more sense ? I am looking for the desired outcome(s) by the US, so that we can work backwards from them.

Putin has his game figured out, will the US continue to be reactive to Putin’s moves or does the US have its own moves ?

Let me know if you want to change the title and what you want it to be instead.

The exit strategy is to totally support Ukraine with sophisticated weaponry until the Russians withdraw. After that, we’ll help them in all ways possible to rebuild and to alleviate human suffering.

He does?

He sure hasn’t been acting like it.

Actually, Putin is getting his ass kicked, he has panicked and instituted a draft, he is losing public support, and he is getting desperate enough to consider tactical nukes. If that is, “having his game figured out”, then I agree.

@What_Exit - maybe change it to "What are the likely outcomes/scenarios in the Ukraine war that the US is working towards ? "

Done.

Or maybe he just wants the US/West to think that. Deception is part of the war strategy !

Hopefully that is all it is with the tactical nukes. The rest is actually pretty clear and not a put on.

Yes, that definitely could be sabre rattling on his part; however, it may very well have the opposite effect that he expects and desires. Instead of intimidating the nations that support Ukraine, he may be rallying even more nations to their support.

@What_Exit → thanks for the title change.

Knowing Putin and his meteoric rise and strategic grab of power, I am not sure I can buy that Putin is naïve. He knows exactly what he is doing and has planned his moves much ahead.
