There’s an argument on that?
Dogma. I think it’s a brilliant statement from someone who feels passionately about their faith. Many more seem to believe that it’s blasphemous.
Close.
We were their neighbors, & lived there before they arrived.
Dad’s a good man. He stood by his new neighbors, because he is a decent (sp?) man. But his job required him to travel. And the cowards sent me, my newborn brother & Mom a “gift” in the middle of the night. We stayed with Grandma & Grandpa, until we found a new place to live.
The Hell came to Maywood later.
Mystic River
Seemed to imply and infer that all of societal ills were the result of child molestation.

I liked this movie, but havn’t seen it in a while. There were supposed to be two sequals, but the movie tanked so they were never filmed. I wonder if the planned sequels would have seemed more complete?
Anyway, my pick would be A Christmas Story
Bambi. I got into a bar fight over Bambi.
Divisive? It merely splits the world into people who think A Christmas Story is one of the greatest Christmas movies ever, and people who haven’t seen A Christmas Story.
Not that cleanly. My girlfriend and I both think of it as high comedy.
I don’t know of anyone who has a lukewarm opinion of Lynch’s Dune. People can either quote it verbatim or they deny its existence. Both groups include fans of the books, however.
I love it. I read the books after seeing the movie and I can see why others would hate it, but I don’t. I think it’s great fun.
As do my girlfriend and I.
I Heart Huckabees gets my vote. Definitely a love it or hate it movie. I hated it.
Almost everyone I know who’s seen it in real life thinks It’s A Wonderful Life is a funny, touching, ultimately finely-made film.
Almost everyone I’ve heard speak of it in the SDMB thinks it’s saccharine tripe.
picks up broad brush and walks away whistling
Am I the only one who wants to hear more of this story?
OK, why the Fiddlesticks ain’t we hearin’ this goshdang story?!?
Is he talkin’ 'bout Bambi that works behind the bar? Cuz, if so, I knows what he means!
I love the Stuart Smalley skits on SNL. (I also love alliteration.) They’re hysterical because they spoof a segment of the 12-step population that desperately deserves it.
I hated Stuart Saves His Family because it was overwrought trash.
Robin
I’m a male who found it tedious and long-winded.
I love Santa Sangre! I foist it on all my friends, and their usual reaction is something like “That was kinda cool, but what the f**k, man?”
What about people who think A Chrismas Story is one of the greatest Christmas movies ever and people who think 24 hours of it is a bit much?
Wes Anderson’s films seem to divide people, including and especially his fans. One fan might love The Royal Tenenbaums and hate Rushmore (that fan being me) while others think that Rushmore is the pinnacle of his career (foolish, foolish people).
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou has widely been considered a failure by most people - critics, his fans, and film viewers in general. Recently, I had a chance to watch it and really enjoyed it. Maybe not quite as good as The Royal Tenebaums (which I consider one of the best American films of the 90’s) but it’s in that direction.
Napoleon Dynamite might be the best Wes Anderson film not directed by Wes Anderson.
And for the record, I think Starship Troopers is a great film. A GREAT film! People just don’t get it.
