No, Tigard isn’t that far away from Portland. It’s more of an inner-ring “this is where I can actually afford to live” suburb. I’m two blocks from “downtown” Tigard. (Long ago, it used to be a separate town.)
BUT!!! Last year, the old movie theater less than half a block from my house converted to indie!! They now have weird movie posters everywhere, INCLUDING one for the original Eegah– a hipster sign if there ever was one. There’s one in the bathroom that clearly made a big impression, because I still remember it even though I can’t remember the title… I want to say it was a William Castle film from the 60’s. Anyway, the tag line is: “This movie tackles the most important social problem facing America today-- the sex life of ghosts!”) They have pizza and craft beer… you know the kind of thing. And those really uncomfortable seats that you squirm around in while secretly thinking of stadium seating at Regal Cinema at the mall, with 498579-4382.pi screens…
I’m not sure if anyone else lives someplace where indie theaters are a HUGE part of hipster culture, but they are here. So Tigard is on its way! ![]()
