I used that wording in the title because if I used “what are the least black sports”, I’d get flamed by pizzabrat. Which I did, no big surprise there; PB will flame me for playing pool, because I’m going after the black eight-ball. If I used “What are the most white, Asian and Hispanic sports?”, it looks fucking awkward.
I see the offenderati have their licking their chops at this thread.
MODS: Please pass a new rule. Discussion about any topic related in any way to race and ethnicity is prohibited, unless it is to openly criticize whites or Americans. It’s already the de facto rule here. Make asking a “Why do blacks/Hispanics/Asians/Indians/anyone else (excepting Anglo-Americans and Jews) do a certain something” post ia bannable action. Christ.
Well I don’t know what elmwood meant specifically, but I know I do it myself subconsciously and it annoys the hell out of me when I catch myself doing it. Although what I catch myself doing is saying “white” to mean white/black/hispanic – essentially non-asian/non-indian. I am not 100% why I do it, but funnily enough when I saw “whitest sports” I immediately thought “football”.
If I may, I think what people are taking exception with is the categorizing or grouping of humans into the “us” versus “them” camp. Of course there are black curlers out there. We’re not sure why this matters though.
This has been an occasional topic of discussion among my friends for years now. You just rarely see anyone other than whiteys camping when you get more than a few miles out there. We don’t know why.
I don’t think there’s anything ill-intentioned about **elmwood’s ** question, even if the use of “whitest” in the OP is somewhat inaccurate. Obviously, whenever the social construct of race is discussed, there’s bound to be some eyebrows raised - but merely noticing, after a long history of participation, that a particular race/ethnicity/nationality is uncommonly seen in your sport is fairly innocuous.
With that said, I think a good answer to the OP would be, “there is no good answer.” The ethnicity or race of the participants in a sport varies depending on where you are geographically. and while we may have accurate statistics when it comes to major league sports, that still doesn’t speak for amateurs (in a technical sense, not as a commentary on their skill) like elmwood and the people in his curling club. I don’t see many blacks off-roading in 4x4s here in Indiana but there might be lots of them doing it in Alabama. Who knows? And there are so many obscure sports out there - what definition of sports are we using? Are caber tossing, jai alai and camel racing included?
elmwood, the thread was going along reasonably well until you posted this. These type of threads can be ticklish enough as it is without inviting attack.
You do have a history of starting this type of thread, which, rightly or wrongly, has given some posters an impression of you as being, perhaps, too interested in race. I, for one, would prefer that you, in this forum, answer such leading questions in a non-abrasive manner or ignore them.
It’s been years since I have seen Australian Rules Football, but I remember thinking that the absence of blacks (except as referees) was a clear indication of their superior intellect.
