What are the worst songs from the 90s?

They sound nothing alike. “Unpretty” is a slowish R&B number about… something that’s supposed to make teenage/twentysomething women not feel bad or care so much about how they look. “MMMbop” is a bouncy, happy, catchy, fun pop song.

“Believe” came out in the 90s, which gets my vote. What a horrible song.

The melodies are pretty similar, though.

“MmmBOP” (which I think is a bit unfairly maligned) always reminded me of Fleetwood Mac’s “Secondhand News” for whatever reason.

OMG I hate this song. Hate it.

The rhythm and style are different, but it’s exactly the same tune.

Have you actually been reading my posts? I have no difficulty believing you hate grunge. You’d hardly be the first person to hold that opinion. I even said I didn’t think you’d like the Screaming Trees. I’m not a particular fan of the band myself, and I certainly don’t think they’re so wonderful that everyone would love them regardless of how they felt about other early '90s alt-rock. What I don’t believe is that you saw the name of a not-that-famous band from a genre you never liked to begin with and instantly remembered their music – not grunge music in general, but the music of the Screaming Trees in particular – well enough to say that you “absolutely” didn’t like it. You were just saying you disliked every band FoieGrasIsEvil named, whether you actually remembered them or not. You may well have heard “Nearly Lost You” a few times on the radio when it was a modest hit way back in 1992, but I don’t buy that you saw the name the Screaming Trees here and thought “Oh yes, they’re the ones who did that song ‘Nearly Lost You’, which I vividly remember as one of the worst songs of the decade!” Most people who liked grunge would have to stop and think about which of the lesser-known Seattle bands did “Nearly Lost You”.

This thread has been kicking around in my subconscious for a while. The question begs to answered. So many responses, so many bad songs. Mambo #5? An atrocity yes, but the worst of the decade? Then I had a revelation. A song so bad no other song could approach its awfulness without being obliterated in a good/anti-good explosion. The worst song of the '90s.

You’re welcome.

A message promptly undermined by the video, which was full of pretty people.
