What Are These Dessert Bars Called?

I love these tasty treats, and I’d love to make them tonight. Sadly, I cannot google a recipe because I do not know their name. They feature a grahmn cracker bottom, and have chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, coconut, and sometimes walnuts. I think the recipe calls for condensed milk too ( I once saw a recipe for them, but have since forgot their name).

What are these things called? Do you have a recipe? Help this hungry doper.

You probably mean these, right?

“7 layer bars,” and boy are they delicious.

Hello Dollies.

Might as well just gobble teaspoons of sugar right out of the canister. Gaaah. But, if one MUST have them (and I’ve been there) one should read the cans of Eagle Brand in the grocery aisle - there’s usually a recipe right on the can.

Yep.

Got stuff at store. Gonna do some baking right now.

The one in the Mojave is called Big Jimmy’s. The one in Iraq is called Abdullah’s, but they don’t serve any alcohol there.

Doesn’t everybody?

no but 7 layer bars are better than just tsps of sugar! the combo of all those items is soooo delicious. YUM

My mother (and thus my family) always called them “Magic cookie bars”

Ever seen the movie Dick? The version of the bars they serve to Tricky Dick have a particularly “magic” ingredient. [Insert spliff-smoking smilie here.] They use the Hello Dollies name, which is what my family always called them.

If you email me, I can provide my mailing address.

Nanaimo bars?

They’re both yummy, but Nanaimo bars are a different thing. They have a custardy layer and chocolate/graham cracker crust. Seven layer bars have a plain graham cracker crust and layers of coconut, chocolate chips, and butterscotch chips, etc.

I like Nanaimo bars better–seven-layer bars are a little too sweet. But seven-layer bars are good, too.

There’s something sweeter than a Nanaimo bar?

We call these “Potluck Bars”, because they show up at every potluck we ever go to. We both love them, but I won’t make them at home because we’d eat the whole pan at once.

Yep. Although I might have to make some of both, so I can do a taste-test.
