What are these plates called?

This picture circulated on Pinterest a while ago. I think these plates are gorgeous and would look just right in my kitchen. My only problem is, what are they? How do I get some?

Please help.

My first impulse was to say it looks like Delftware, but that doesn’t look quite right.

No, these aren’t flow blue or traditional transferware. If you do a Google image search for “Bohemian plates” you get lots of similar hits. Unfortunately, “Bohemian” can apparently mean cool organic hand-painted designs similar to these, or stuffy Czech glass and china. Everything on eBay is the stuffy kind.

You could try asking on Apartment Therapy. They often have questions like this, but the people there know a lot more about home decor than the average Doper (sorry guys). If you don’t find the answer you are looking for on here, I’d do that.

They made me think of Blue Willow plates but those tend to have something more of a scene, while the ones you linked just have a nice abstract / geometric pattern.

Looks like the plates are from a room decorated by a designer named Jenny Wolf.

She has a Web site for her design firm (with contact info) and a Facebook page.

The first thing that strikes me is Turkish tilework. Let me find some examples…

This one shows a common pattern of tulips, a flower originating in Turkey and being sold to Holland where it became an insane fad.
Not saying that these plates are this old, but the stylized birds are painted in a similar manner.

What popped into mind immediately was the Blue Mosque, which has an amazing focus on blue tiles, and there was a documentary on the tilemaker who is working on restoring the mosque called Paradise Found: Islamic Art.

Now we’re cooking with gas. That does seem like a possibility.

Dag those things are expensive. Jenny Wolf is based in New York. Wonder if she got those plates for $300 apiece at ABC Carpets…

That may be it. I was thinking they were Kashubian, as modulated through the blue-and-white necessities of Delftware (thanks, Ferret Herder!), but I see that Delftware can have colours other than blue as well.

Faience Slice 16-inch platter is $265.

You clever clogs, you.

Too bad they’re too expensive. Oh well (sigh).
