What are you GIVING this ChrisNachuWanzaWeen?

My niece and nephews got lift tickets to their local ‘big’ mountain.

Brother for the umpteenth year in a row, six months of XM radio (he gets the other 6 months for his birthday)

Mom - Home Depot gift card, per her request. A pair of fleece lined pants for working outside. AAA membership.

Mom got a nifty little folding gardening stool with pouches for tools and such. She quite liked it.

Dad got some binoculars so that he can spy on the neighbors. Dad being dad, he wasn’t terribly demonstrative about it.

My “niece” (unrelated, but my favorite kid in the world and the spawn of my brother from another mother) got a nice hardcover of A Wrinkle in Time. I debated about this one a little, due to Judeo-Christian themes/references (that get much more anvilicious later on in the series), but a little bit of research found them to be fairly tame–really nothing much more than the basic level of exposure that you’re going to get from being exposed to Western culture in general. I’m hoping she likes it.

And that’s it. I don’t give many gifts. I am considering giving brother from another mother a subscription to Scientific American, as I think he’d enjoy it.

As expected, niece and nephew LOVED their gifts, my niece started her first new streamer fly on her vise yesterday, she’s still figuring out how she wants to set it up

I can’t wait to see Sage’s first fly on her new vise…

My nephew was ecstatic over his Sheridan Blue Streak, and can’t stop raving about how much he loves it, we spent a good couple hours in the backyard knocking a homemade bounce target around, trying different pellets, and generally having a blast

I think I’ll pick up a 12 pack of seltzer water and have them both have fun popping them with their airguns, Logan with his Blue Streak, and Sage with her Daisy Buck BB gun, they both love shooting full, shaken up soda cans

I gave My Beloved a 12 foot long scarf she’s been wanting for years and a large box of Godiva chocolates.

My family isn’t very picky about the holidays and didn’t feel like doing Hanukah and Thanksgiving at the same time, so we kind of merged it with my parents’ December birthdays. I gave my brother a graphic novel he wanted (“Formerly Known as the Justice League”) and a gift certificate to Midtown Comics, I gave my father the Band’s Live at the Academy of Music 1971 set and the Jimi Hendrix Miami Pop Festival release, and we’re getting my Mom an iPod with a bunch of albums she chose. My girlfriend is more of a Christmas fan, so we waited until yesterday morning to exchange gifts. I got her the Humans of New York book, which she’d asked me for, and a ukulele with some picks and a Beatles songbook. By the end of the night she’d made her way through Norwegian Wood.

Was this a stripey scarf like the kind worn by a Galifreyan who travels Time/Space in what appears to be a British Police Box?

The 12 foot length is what tipped it off…

That’s the one.

I’ve one of those scarves myself. It gets lots of comments/compliments, mostly from folks who are total non-Whovians.

Froody!

Was the shipping box it came in larger on the inside?

I don’t know. As she was wrapping the scarf around her neck and reaching for the Godiva Chocolates, the box just…disappeared.

Gotta love GPS… (Galifreyan Parcel Service)…

…when it absolutely, positively has to be there before you mailed it…
