What am I listening to right now?
A Ticking Clock by Westclox
and
A Running Refridgerator by Kenmore
When did I first hear it?
Hmmm, that’s a tough one. In the womb, maybe?
Old is the New Black by The Hugh Trowsers Band – I’m listening to this one over and over. Fabulous!
Speak for Yourself by Imogen Heap – it’s growing on me.
Streamline, by Newton. First time I heard it was in that pepsi commercial with Jimmy Fallon about 2 weeks ago. I’m not fan of techno at all, but something about this song is just awesome.
*Say Something * by Mariah Carey
I got this album (Emancipation of Mimi) as an early birthday present this January, and I first heard it then.
Queen of the Circulating Library by Coil. I picked it up a few years ago when I was checking out stuff by alumni of Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV.
I’m listening to Historic RCA Studio B Volume 2 (as well as Volume 1). I first heard about it three weeks ago when I was in Nashville and took the tour of RCA Studio B. Of course, I first heard some of the songs on these CDs forty years ago, but never with this degree of clarity. I highly recommend the studio tour if you’re in Nashville, as well as these CDs!
Right now at this second I am listening to “Shine on You Crazy Diamond” by Pink Floyd. Next in Queue is Ten Years Gone by Led Zeppelin.

Funny you should ask, as I was just listening to “The River” by Bruce Springsteen. It’s a cassette tape recorded off the album and you know how you anticipate the riff starting the next song as soon as the current song finishes? Between that happening and me singing along to every word, I thought, wow I know this pretty well. Then I thought, well, I should, I’ve only been listening to it for 26 years!! (on and off, anyway
).
But I remember how over the years different songs stood out as the ones I loved the most or paid the most attention to. Certainly “Hungry Heart” was the highlight when the album first came out, since it was on the radio and mentioned “Kingstown” which was close to my hometown of Kingston. It took me years to realize that “the black and whites” cruising by “Out on the Street” were cop cars and not groups of various races passing by. And that "Ramrod"ding till half past dawn didn’t mean just dancing and driving fast. :o (OK, I was young when the album came out.)
But that album contains a couple of my favorite phrases and their deliveries of all time:
Independence Day: So say goodbye, it’s Independence Day, all boys must run away
The Price You Pay: So let the game start, you better run you little wild heart
Wreck on the Highway: An ambulance finally came and took him to Riverside/ and I watched as they drove him away/And I thought of a girlfriend or a young wife/and a state trooper knockin’ in the middle of the night/To say “your baby died in a wreck on the highway”
And the quiet desperation of “I Want to Marry You”…
No, Russia Cannot Be Perceived by Wit by the Terem quartet.
Forgot to add. Just bought it last week, never hear it before. But I had one of their older CD’s a few years ago which I lost. I bought this and another copy of my old CD from amazon, but the other copy turned out to be out of stock so they refunded my money.
I’m on pandora.com and it’s got Hayley Westenra on it right now. I’m in a mellow friday mood.
I’m a little slow, I forgot part of my Post. I first heard “Shine on You Crazy Diamond” the day the Album came out in the US. My Older Brother bought it on the release day. September 15, 1975. I loved it from the opening note.

Watching Juvenile’s new video “Get Ya Hustle On,” on YouTube. It’s shot in 9th Ward in New Orleans. The place still looks a mess. This is the first time I’ve heard it. It’s a great song and a great video, too.
My tinnitus. First heard it in my early 30s.
“Circle” by Autumn Defense. I first heard it when I went to see them last weekend. I went to see them because I heard that two of their members were in Wilco.
**“The Swining: Red Raw and Sore” **by PIG.
PIG was first recommended to me by a record store geek who knew that between my Kate Bush and Jane Siberry and Bach and Esquivel and Dean Martin and Jeff Buckley and Django Rhinehart and Lauren Hill and (you get the picture) I also like the occasional Marilyn Manson and NIИ and Foetus. PIG (aka Raymond Watts), like Trent Reznor (aka NIИ) is definitely a disciple of Foetus (aka J.G. Thirlwell). Raw vicious industrial, but still very melodic, and occasionally symphonic. Next up: “Sick” by SOW; kind of a female PIG, I’ve been told. Not that I probly wouldna figgered that one out . . . (First item in SOW’s credits: “SOW is Anna Wildsmith with boys,” and “boy 1” is Raymond Watts – sounds promising.)
Sorry; didn’t realize I’d have to disable smileys for the И to show up . . .
Once more:

I first heard that song about five months before the album was released. It was the only time I ever saw Pink Floyd live, in, I think, April of that year. The first half of their show consisted of three long, unreleased songs, the third of which was a half-hour version of “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” with “Have a Cigar” stuck in the middle.
Now I am jealous.
I have only seen Floyd twice. Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Early 90’s tour with the Blimp.
I saw Roger Water’s Pros & Cons of Hitchhiking with Clapton in 84. My second concert.
