What are you looking forward to?

I too have had jobs I’ve hated. Including flying jobs.

If I was there today I’d have retired long ago, noney be damned.

1.) Good thing you aren’t a cop or you would be doomed.
2.) Who is Noney?

  • Two upcoming trips (London & Turks and Caicos).
  • Ski season (but I’m always looking forward to that)
  • Season 5 of Stranger Things (I may have to wait a while)
  • Fresh tomatoes from the garden
  • My broken leg healing up quickly and completely

Short term- gonna see the kids this weekend, eldest driving up from the Windy City she’s looking forward to lake fun, firefly watching, visits to farm stands and a trip down a country lane to the best kept secret in the county a French inspired bakery.

Long term- paying off the mortgage 2027! Paying off student loans 2028!

A friend is coming to visit on Sunday, and will be staying at least long enough to be here for my birthday on Wednesday. Besides being able to spend my birthday with her, it’s the first time in a year one of her visits won’t include her having to take me to the hospital for a medical procedure.

That sounds fantastic, congratulations!

Very nice idea for a thread, but my answer would have to be long and winding, I’ll think about how to put it succinctly. Not my forte, but being nudged to think about it is really a nice idea.

Right now. My favorite most month of the year is August.

The weekend. And since I work a 9/80 schedule, my weekend starts tomorrow. I call it “virtual Friday”.

Tomorrow I’m getting TWO cool things in the mail. The wireless Kindle charging dock I’ve been waiting on forEVER, and a new Hatch 2 Restore sunrise alarm.

Looking forward to seeing if the Rangers can win the World Series. The odds are tough, with the Braves, Dodgers, Rays and Orioles all formidable opponents, but this is the closest we may have come since that fateful night in 2011 when we were twice just one strike away from the championship.

Also looking forward to taking my girlfriend to some Austin FC soccer games in autumn.

Holy crap. I was going to say that Fairy Tale just came out - turns out I bought it a year ago and it’s still 20 books deep in my “to read” pile.

My strategy is to replace my iPhone every 5 generations, so I’m looking forward to replacing my X with the upcoming 15… if they’ve actually made some improvements this generation. If it’s incremental changes, I might save some money and get the 14.

Have a trip planned for August 2025.

  • Iceland
  • Norway
  • British Isles (Viking cruise, I hear they are good, otherwise we don’t really like cruise ships)
  • Iceland again

Yeah, I should replace my phone too. It’s not something I look forward to though. I suspect it’s getting easier. But every time I do it, the phone gets bigger.

I’m actually going down a size. I went with the Max last time, and going down a size may be what I’m most looking forward to. And a fresh battery. And an un-cracked caseback. It’s been a rough five years…

I’m turning 50 in a few weeks. I’m not looking forward to that, but rather to the trip I’m taking for the occasion. For the first time in my life, I won’t be waking up on my birthday in my own bed, I’ll be in Germany.

I’m looking forward to my next paycheck because it will complete the last of my financial goals for the year. Already topped off the IRA, put away some cash for a car in the future, met my extra payments goal on my mortgage and this will put me over the amount I need to cover property taxes.

There are two books I’ve been waiting for for a while: the next volume of Mark Lewisohn’s Beatles biography, and the final volume of Robert Caro’s biography of LBJ. Yes, you might say I’m obsessed with understanding the 1960s.

It’s going to be a tight race with these books, the Grim Reaper, and me. I’m rooting for that order of the finishes.

Ah yeah, the first steps of a child into the world of education. Fraught with both terror and excitement for Mom and Dad as well as the kiddos.

Vaderling starts frikkin high school next week. High School!! He was in kindergarten just last week!!!

It’s been a hell of an interesting trip watching this kid grow up, I’m really super excited for the next 4 years with him.

Thanks for mentioning this! I wasn’t aware of it at all. The paperback edition of volume 1 was released in 2016, but (oddly) the Kindle edition won’t be available until late October: I’ve added it to the list of things I’m looking forward to. Hopefully it won’t take as long for the next volume to be available via Kindle.

Parenthood is a journey like no other, to be sure. Highest highs and lowest lows, I like to say. I try not to think about adolescence.

My son is about to start formal swim lessons and I’m looking forward to that as well. He really loves the water. I had a gut feeling this was important to prioritize, and that was even before he fell in love with swimming. We’re going swimming tomorrow at Grandma’s - yet another thing to look forward to. It’s a friggin’ sweet heated bilevel pool with a waterfall and we’re allowed to go over there whenever we want. :sunglasses: Though I am bemused by the fact that my son may never know what a cold swimming pool feels like. Even the one at his swim lessons place is heated.

grumble grumble back in MY day, we swam in cold lakes and we liked it!
