We in Sweden have a really sad habit of complaining about Swedes. According to many Swedes we are boring, antisocial, and cowards.
Now there might actually be some truth in the cowards bit, as we tend to not raise our voices against what we feel is wrong, and rather keep silent and walk around and be bitter about it, but not to the extent you would belive when you hear a swede talking about it.
As for the antisocial and boring part, it always seem to be those other swedes that are at fault, and not the people you personally know.
Its all pretty stupid and unnecessary, I believe we are suffering from some kind of national low self esteem that as far as I know doesnt really exist anywhere else…
(Kind of ironic that I complain about swedes complaning about swedes, I know, but…)
People who make a decent income complaining about how underpaid they are.
Look, you have skills, you have your MCSE (or whatever), if you really think you are worth $80,000 instead of the $72,000 you are paid here, go look for a different job - see if someone will pay you the $80,000 that the Microsoft MCSE magazine has you convinced you are worth. You are worth $72,000 to me - and I really wish I could get rid of you, cause I know I can hire someone with a better attitude for $64,000.
And there are the kids who spend two weeks half going through the motions of the class, and when the class is asked for questions during the final review, for about the 20th time in the unit, raise their hands and say, “I don’t get it. Any of it.”
I work at a private liberal arts college. It drives me crazy when students say, “I’m poor.” You are not poor. Poor people do not go to this college. You may not have money for pizza, beer, or other luxury items. You may be on financial aid. You may not be as well off as most of the other students here. You may feel poor, but compared to the rest of the population, you’re really, really not.
This feeling is multiplied exponentially when I know the student drives a nicer car than I do.
