What are your biggest specific SDMB annoyances?

If I re-state that “none of this is specific to SDMB*” will I get my own entry in the poll? :stuck_out_tongue:

  • references to Cecil aside…

I see people bitching that people here think they are smart about 90x more times than I see people actually claiming that they are smart.

Word. And the word is “projection” on the part of those who perceive this to be the case.

This also applies to just about everybody in this thread who think what other people do is annoying.

I don’t think people come out and say it very often, but the “hippest and smartest” belief is pretty pervasive throughout the tone of a lot of people’s posts.

Couldn’t agree more.

Hint to all who use the term; don’t use an insult that applies to you, too. And it probably does. You’re not that different.

Cow-orker is supposed to be an insult? I thought it was just a (lame, not very funny) play on words.

Two thing

  1. Long op (not a problem) where post #2 quotes the entire op and then replies. Really? Do you think we are goldfish that only have a 5 second memory? If there is one small thing you want torespond to cut the quote down. You don’t have to quote the whole damn thing.
  2. The flip side of that is a multipage thread, where in middle of page 5 poster we’ll call him dipshit, responds to something that some said back in the bottom of page 2 and does not quote what they are responding to.
Makes no sense and makes a lot of work for the reader.

Read any of the threads referencing IQ in the title and you’ll find a dozen people claiming IQ’s that, statistically, would make them the smartest person in their entire state, or even their country.

Sure. My point stands.

Cat posts and semantics nitpicking/real-topic avoiding.

At the risk of adding another annoyance to the list:

And everybody everywhere, actually. Something pressing your buttons today? Well, they are your buttons…

Yeah but the ‘play’ is the fact that you are calling someone a cow. It doesn’t bug me when I hear it, but I thought it was a pretty obvious insult, and kind of petty.

The weird thing about annoyances is that there is no way to have an interesting and exciting community if everyone is careful to never offend or annoy anyone else. That’s why I love all you annoying suckas.

I’m with antonio - TL;DNR is either trolling or advertising that a gnat has a better attention span than you do. At the best a longer post is like one about cats: don’t read it if you don’t want to but posting TL;DNR is entering a cat thread just to say that cat threads suck and annoy you. It is threadshitting.

As to the “eat a sammich” meme … maybe I’ve missed these threads but I’ve seen many threads insulting the fat and none insulting the skinny. The link is to someone complaining about it, perhaps in real life, but providing no link to someone here doing it. The closest I’ve seen is stoid defending saying it, but not actually doing it. And she is wrong. Very wrong.

No, stating that some models are clinically underweight and perhaps not the ideal societal archetype for beauty is not the same as calling someone a fat-ass pig. Certainly it is fair to say that you find a fat physique unattractive … or a skinny one.

I get annoyed by people who feel they can justify making fun of the fat by claiming this mythic skinny-bashing as a defense.

The IQ bit … basic rule, anyone claiming to be a genius almost always proves themselves to be an idiot by what they post.

Exactly. The very definition of it.

I wasn’t defending it, because that implies I think it’s alright. I don’t think being rude and offensive is ever acceptable. I was explaining it and (lightly) arguing that it is incorrect to call them equivalent, because while both are wrong, they are not the same wrong.
