What are your Boycotts for 2006?

Starting fresh for the New Year, I’ve decided to renew ( with vigor) the following boycotts:
Walmart and their abhorrent business practices.

Starbucks besides blech coffee, it is overpriced. And I don’t want a Vendi, Up-All Night and Bladderbuster, I want Small-Medium-Large. m’kay?

Toys R Us Even before I had kids, I hated going in this place. It is all about commericals and plastic, phony and overpriced. Support your Independant Toy Store & Board Game Companies!

**Designer Clothes & Purses: **I have real issues with their treatment and poor pay history in the third world nations. I’ve never bought them anyways, so this isn’t really a true boycott, more along a Honest & Frugal lifestyle choice. Besides, much of the stuff is just goofy.

If I could find a gas station that only sold American Gas, I’d be pretty happy.

DeBeers and Real Diamonds. The perceived value and the overinflated pricing of these shiny baubles is so frightening to me. I do own a nice diamond, but it was before I came to the light about the monopoly that DeBeers has. CZ for me .

Businesses Who Will Get My Money

**American Made First ** ( this includes Canuckistan too.) Then Europe & Aussie made.

Fair Trade items. (fair price paid to the 3rd world person whom made said item.)

Organic & Fair Trade.

**Indy book stores. ** They care about books and know their stuff.

**Indy Toy Stores. **They are as passionate about childhood & great toys as much as I am.

**Resale, Goodwill & Salvation Armies. ** $20 for a few new items of clothing! What is not to love? I’ve shopped at them for nigh on 20 years. FTR, most of them are having a 50% sale January 2nd for clothing. wOOt!

My local Library. They save me so much money over the year, that I always shove whatever few bucks I have in my wallet into their little donation cans at the check out. (Which goes to support the Teen Reading Room.)

North American Sellers on Ebay.

Plastic shopping bags.

Our town is going plastic shopping bag free during the year - all businesses will ban them and privide calico ones at a price if you don’t bring your own carrier bag. We aren’t the first to do it, but we’re one of the first. Yes!

Any store which plays loud music. Can’t stand it. Why do they do it?

Target because of their banning of the Salvation Army ringers.

Veal because little cows should not be kept in cages 3x too small just to make the meat tender.

Target bans all solicitors, not just the Salvation Army. Snopes link.

In fact, that’s one of the reasons I’m excited that we’re finally getting a Target where I live. Wal-Mart has all manner of charitable groups who hang out in front of the store to solicit donations. Some of them are worthy and I’m usually good for a contribution, but others I don’t agree with. Some of them are respectful and make me go to them. Others are incredibly pushy, and this includes some SA bell ringers. I don’t like being shamed into donating, and I don’t care how worthy the cause is. I know I can go to Target and not be hassled.

In fact, now that we’re getting a viable alternative, once the Target opens, I intend to shop there exclusively.

I also hope that this local business boom brings in a Borders or Barnes and Noble.

Robin

I will continue to boycott:

Best Buy
Circuit City
Advance Auto Parts
Barnes and Noble

I avoid Best Buy because of their exceptionally ear drum shattering music blared in the store.

Walmart !

The Red Sox, because of the mess Larry Lucchino has caused by treating Theo like shit.

Anything involving Tom Cruise.

I will renew my boycott of WalMart. I absolutely loathe WalMart, but there’s one right next to my office and often end up running over there because it’s so convenient. Of course, I spend the entire time I am there hating it and promising I will never go there again. A promise I promptly break the next time I need something.

But no more. I do not want to support a company that treats its employees so abominably.

Pork.

Anything involving Scientology. The usual stuff.

Asparagus

I’m currently in my fourth decade of this boycott, and I haven’t faltered yet.

SouthWest Airlines, for their horrible treatement of overweight people.

Not quite a monopoly (but yes - very close to one) - Google “Canadian Diamonds” and poke around in some of the resulting websites.

Just how big would someone have to be before you understood? Some people have grown over 1000lbs. I am sure there must be some cutoff right? Where is that for you?

I’ve decided this year to boycott Walmart aslo. Not because of it’s buisness practices or anything like that, but because it’s filled with dirty people. Oh dear Og, put some shoes on your children and keep them near the cart. I’ll stick with the BX on base where people have like, manners, and bathe regularly.

I am going to boycott stores that brag about only having Swedish (since I live in Sweden) food stuffs etc. I do not care where the steak comes from as long as it tastes good and the price is right.

If that means the meat comes from Denmark or Argentina and my eggs are from Holland so be it.

Wait, so you weren’t wearing pants to begin with?
