**Time In ** - Dave Brubeck Quartet
**Rumours ** - Fleetwood Mac

Sarah McLaughlin…see above. probably Fumbling Towards Ecstasy
What? No Rolling Stones yet? OK…toss in **Exile On Main Street ** or Beggar’s Banquet.

My list of alternates goes on forever…

I’d’ve worried, otherwise – you know that.

[minor hijack]

Interesting and wonderful to see the number of people who can’t do with Dave Brubeck. So what song(s) made **Time Out ** your selection? I picked **Time In ** because of 40 Days.

[end minor hijack]

In no particular order:

  1. Revolver, The Beatles
  2. Astral Weeks, Van Morrison
  3. Blood on the Tracks, Bob Dylan
  4. Lady Soul, Aretha Franklin
  5. Live in Europe, Otis Redding
  6. London Calling, The Clash
  7. It Takes a Nation of Millions, Public Enemy
  8. The Cole Porter Songbook, Ella Fitzgerald
  9. Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, The Berlin Philharmonic conducted by von Karajin
  10. The Man Comes Around, Johnny Cash
  1. Wilco Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
  2. Wilco A.M.
  3. Wilco Being There
  4. Wilco Summerteeth
  5. Wilco A Ghost is Born
  6. Beatles The White Album
  7. The Magnetic Fields 69 Love Songs Vol 1
  8. Beatles Revolver
  9. Elliot Smith Basement on a Hill
  10. Paul McCartney Band On the Run

I can’t get below 12 choices, but I see a few others couldn’t get it down to 10 either.

Buena Vista Social Club, “Buena Vista Social Club”
Bill Frisell, “Gone, Just Like a Train”
Chet Atkins, “Chet Atkins and Friends”
Randy Newman, “12 Songs”
Alman Brothers Band, “Alman Brothers at Filmore East"
Janis Joplin, “Pearl”
Bob Seger, “Night Moves”
Johnny Cash, “At Folsom Prison”
Van Morrison, “Moondance”
Tina Turner, “Private Dancer”
David Bowie, “Let’s Dance”
Derek and the Dominos “Layla”

Well, I picked it and can do one of 2 things: I could either (1) List every track on the album, or (2) Point out that Time Out is one of those great albums that just flows. In fact, every album that made my hypothetical cut has that flowing charateristic - where’s it’s not a collection of songs, but rather a piece of work. To prove the point, ‘Nighthawks @ The Diner’ by Tom Waits was my #11 choice.

It’s good to see you posting in other threads - especially since this forum became Comic Book/SciFi Central.

I think the album as a whole stands as a work of art. But I have to admit to being a sucker for Blue Rondo a la Turk, even though the places where it jumps back and forth between 9/8 and 4/4 remind me of Steve Martin having episodes of Happy Feet.

The White Stripes: De Stijl
The Beatles: The White Album
Liz Phair: Exile in Guyville
Nirvana: Nevermind
The Pixies: Doolittle
Portishead: Dummy
AC/DC: Back in Black
The Donnas: Spend the Night
Beck: Odelay
Lucinda Williams: Concrete and Barbed Wire
Again, this list changes daily. However, the first six are carved in stone.

The album is a work of art. But I do have a soft spot for Blue Rondo a la Turk, in spite of the fact that the places where it jumps between 9/8 and 4/4 remind me of Steve Martin breaking out in “Happy Feet”.

Well, I’m gonna repeat some stuff that has come before, but here goes anyway:

Beatles, Revolver
Boards of Canada, Music has the Right to Children
Hooverphonic, A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular
Led Zeppelin, Physical Grafitti
Lounge Lizards, Voice of Chunk
Massive Attack, Mezzanine
Rolling Stones, Exile on Main Street
Sam Phillips, Martinis and Bikinis
Steely Dan, Countdown to Ecstacy
XTC, Black Sea

It’s such a good album though!

I knew that, too, which is why I didn’t put the Blow soundtrack on the list.

Fine, fine. Whatever, freakin’ thread dictators…

  1. Ænima - Tool
  2. Toxicity - System of a Down
  3. The Marshall Mathers LP - Eminem
  4. Break the Cycle - Staind
  5. Lateralus - Tool
  6. 2001 - Dr. Dre
  7. Undertow - Tool
  8. The Eminem Show - Eminem
  9. Surfacing - Sarah McLachlan
  10. Encore - Eminem

I’ll just have to smuggle The Eagles in my pants. No biggie.

Good news – I have absolutely no interest in what you have in your pants.

I love that song.

Never heard of it. But if it’s on this list, I need it.

I wouldn’t have chosen that particular Joni album, though.

Large Marge’s thread here reminded me of an album I have to put into the #10 spot – Wynton Marsalis’s In This House On This Morning. Pls. consider the above list so revised.

The no greatest hits rule is a killer, that leaves out Earth Wind & Fire’s Greatest (Vol I) and Stevie Wonder’s Original Musiquarium - right? Isn’t that one a gr hits album? (notice how I managed to mention them both anyway? does that mean the rescue team brings them along for the ride home?)
