What are your favorite movie musicals? Multiple Choice.

Not in the poll and not even mentioned () - Gypsy.

Oh, MMM, you definitely have to check it out when you have a spare moment. I think you’ll fall in love with 1776! The restored DVD is definitely the one to seek out. I think it only has 1 extra song, but it’s a very good one and important in the context of the movie.

I’m another one who has the Music Man as my favorite. But Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and Singing in the Rain are a close second (I’m not sure if i could one of them in 3rd). I picked Rocky Horror and Grease to round out my top 5 since I love the music and watch them yearly but they are definitely a ways back of the top 3.

South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut

I know it’s not loved by many, but I have fond childhood memories of watching Finian’s Rainbow with my family once a year when it came on TV.

Another one wondering where’s The Music Man?

Where is the love for America’s Tribal Love Rock Musical, Hair?

Also, Paint Your Wagon isn’t mentioned. It’s worth watching just to hear Lee Marvin try to sing.

I will echo those who mentioned that “The Music Man” belongs on this list.

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Funniest movie ever made, and I say it still counts as a musical even though the film version dropped most of the songs.

I voted for Fiddler on the Roof, The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, Singin’ in the Rain, and “Other” because you forgot The Music Man.

Paint Your Wagon is another favorite that wasn’t on the list…

I tell ya, this list has got trouble. With a capital T!

(The Music Man is my favorite, too.)

How to…apply for a job
How to…advance from the mailroom
How to…sit down at a desk
How to…dictate memoranda
How to…develop executive style
How to commute

With that weary executive smile.
This book…is all that I need
How to, how to…succeed
(but not how to get on this list!!!)

I’d have added How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.

Beauty and the Beast is the animated Disney feature, right? So why was it the only animated film on the list?

Token inclusion?
mmm

Only one film has zero votes.

Nobody wants to say hello to Dolly?
mmm

The film version? That sucked.

Count me in as voting for The Music Man, Paint Your Wagon, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, The Producers, and 1776.

But mostly The Music Man.

Did anyone else love the 1970’s version of “Mame” with Lucille Ball (Auntie Mame) and Bea Arthur (Vera Charles)?

One of my favorites, though I haven’t seen it for a while.

Lucy and Bea had perfect comedy timing; they just don’t make 'em like that anymore…

New York, New York, a helluva town!
abstains.

Courteously.

I didn’t care for the movie Jesus Christ Superstar. I know that Ted Nealey was very popular in the movie and on stage but I didn’t like him at all- he reminded me too much of John Hurt playing Jesus (later) in Mel Brooks History of the World. However, I did like the taping of the stage show a few years back, and ditto for the taped stage version of South Pacific over the movie (except it lacked Ray Walston’s Billis).

The movie version of The Producers had the stupidest decision ever in theatrical release, which was omitting King of Broadway (even though it had been filmed). It makes the whole opening of the show; who cuts an opening number?

Acting wise I prefer the Irene Dunne Showboat to the remake, though it lacked Howard Keel’s voice and Agnes Moorehead’s Agnes Mooreheadness. Helen Morgan didn’t have the drop dead beauty of Ava Gardner but her voice atoned.

Kiss Me Kate?
The Lion King?
Show Boat?

I love those to death. I would name Phantom of the Opera just because it’s so romantically beautiful to look at (though like Hair, it seemed kind of late in the game for a movie version to come out), and anything - anything! - by Bob Fosse. I’ve seen Cabaret about a hundred times, and when Chicago came out, I went to see it four times in one month (dragging along different people).

Bye Bye Birdie? (The local high school here is putting it on for its spring musical. MY old high school, umpteen hundred years ago, put it on for ITS spring musical:rolleyes:.)
