What are your favorite songs that begin with a numeral or a symbol released on or after January 1, 2000? See rules in OP (Final POLL ADDED)

I consider myself an Elder Millennial (I kind of fall into that grey area between young Gen-Xer and old Millennial) and the only songs I’m sure I know are the ones I nominated. That’s why I’m holding off voting until after work when I can actually listen to all the songs.

BTW at least some of you have probably heard “1” by Joy Zipper before without realizing it, because it was used in a Cigna ad years ago. Admittedly that’s where I first heard it, and liked it enough to purchase it.

Wouldn’t you know it - the first song of the next Radiohead album (15 Step) also qualifies…

I’m an old Gen-Xer and I was unfamiliar with most of the songs too. I mean, I knew most of the artists but not those specific songs. Having listened to them all now, I can’t say these offerings are their best work (Eminem aside - “8 Mile” is pretty darn good).

If you’re Amercan and over the age of 30, you almost certainly know the Feist 1234 song.

Bah. Another one I forgot. From 2004.

Interesting that I had to watch an ad before viewing a commercial.

mmm

Me too! I may know a Green Day song but don’t know it by name.

The only Gorillaz song I know as such is “Feel Good, Inc.” which I’ll nominate when we get to the Fs.

I will note that in previous polls, at this point we would have generally had about 30-35 voters on the way to a final count of 45-60 voters. In this poll, we have 11 at this point.

If that doesn’t define our demographic, I don’t know what does.

Now, can you guys help me get these kids off my lawn??

Yeah, I noticed that and it is a little disappointing.

Not unexpected, of course.

(but this was a difficult first category)

mmm

I don’t think you gave it long enough - some may have mistaken it for a bump of the general one they already participated in.

Yep, I totally missed it in the two days nominations were live. My voting choices were kinda paltry as a result, and not super enthusiastic. Not that my nominations were likely to get more than my vote, mind you. So, it’s mostly my loss. I’ll try to be more on top of it from now on.

(Hehee, it looks like one of my votes is actually in second place. I’ll stop bitching)

Some things I would have considered offering if I’d got them in in time.

The Walkmen - 138th Street - 2004

Lightning Bolt - 13 Monsters - 2001
Everything by Lightning Bolt starts by taking the top of your head off, then shreds you down to the ankles in a fun new way. This all part of their modus operandi.

The Black Angels - 18 Years - 2008
When I first heard The Black Angels, I thought the singer had a reedy voice, and it annoyed me. I got over it. I kinda wish I wrote every one of their songs.

I’ll stop now, since none of it counts for this one.

I totally missed the nomination call as well, although I had already come up with a partial list in advance from mmm’s original planning post (none of which got nominated!):

1 Thing — Amerie (2005)
7/4 (Shoreline) — Broken Social Scene (2005)
1901 — Phoenix (2009)
2080 — Yeasayer (2007)
either of the Radiohead songs mentioned (hadn’t decided, but probably 2+2=5)

“212” was a late cut; “19/2000” made my long list.
