- Combine Q, V, X, & Z as before
- Have a separate thread for each letter
- Some other combination (please specify)

I vote for combining Q, V, X, & Z. I have exactly one song to nominate among these four letters.
Like I said, I have more than 9 Qs, and a like amount of Zs. Haven’t looked at V yet, but likely similar. X would be the only hard one. And I use way harder criteria than the rest of y’all.
I’ve got my 5 Q’s lined up, a few backup, and a couple that would pretty clearly be a waste of ballot space (and that’s saying something coming from me). V’s are plentiful. I might need to vote early on X’s (which I’ve looked at a little) and do some research on Z’s (my iTunes library is almost no help) to jog my memory on them. I voted for separate.
Phantom Limb - The Shins (2006)
Put Your Records On - Corrinne Bailey Rae (2006)
If the consolidation vote wins, would the next songs up for vote be R or Q/V/X/Z?
Next up, if consolidation wins, would be QVXZ.

Ahem. That should be “Party at the NSA”. Intelligence agencies are clearly more fun places for parties than metropolitan statistical areas.
A few stragglers if anyone is interested:
Passing Through (Can’t The Future Just Wait) - Kaden MacKay (2021)
People - Libianca (2023)
Picture / Three Shadows - Enji (2023)
Play It Safe - Tim Minchin (2023) - for the 50th anniversary of the Sydney Opera House
Powder Blue - The Cactus Blossoms (2016)
The Princess Who Saved Herself - Jonathan Coulton (2010)
Pumpkin Cowboy - Brian David Gilbert (2022). He’s a cowboy and a pumpkin!
On the next letter thread, on further consideration I’ll suggest a Q/X/Z list and a separate one for V (which I have a lot of as well). We could probably get up to 50 on Q/X/Z with a bit of luck, and it’ll be a more interesting list.
I only have 4 V’s, two of which are going to be scooped if I don’t manage to post early. I suspect others are in the same boat. ![]()
Okay, on closer inspection I’ve got seven Vs, two of which I suspect will be the source of much bunfighting before I even get there. A couple others have turned out to be covers of older songs and thus don’t qualify.
Last two P’s for me.
For the rarities, I’ve got a couple in the Q’s, a couple of V’s, no X’s or Z’s
The leftover songs I looked up the videos for (10-15 on my list):
Price Tag – Sleater-Kinney (2015)
Parentheses – The Blow (2006)
Phantom Limb – The Shins (2007)
Portland, Oregon – Loretta Lynn ft. Jack White (2004)
Panic Switch – Silversun Pickups (2009)
Perfect Places – Lorde (2017)
Dang, I’m the only one who loves a thick chewy slice of Gelbart, huh?
I don’t think of it as a poor reflection on you guys (and why would you care if I did?) I just thought it was so charming and pleasant in a conventional way. Shows what I know. Don’t make your financial musical bets on my tastes. ![]()
But I will die on the hill that declares that beat totally kicks! It don’t need any fills or breaks!
I can’t speak for others, but if your sample size is just you and me, then yeah, you’re the only one.

mmm
Just listened to it now. Love it! Played it for my 13-year-old son, who is taking drum lessons. 5/4 time, with a Clyde Stubblefield groove! (James Brown’s drummer).
Sorry I didn’t hear it in time. Know that your efforts were not in vain.
And couldn’t that band name itself after a less boring MASH actor? “Farr” would be cooler. ![]()
Also, in the video, the circa-1978 computer printer graphics via typed letters brought me back to being a kid, visiting my father’s workplace…so again, thanks!
