What are your favorite vigilante/revenge movies?

I just watched The Brave One with Jody Foster. Now I’m on a vigilante/revenge jag. And I’m not talking about I Spit On Your Grave but something with a bit more to it. Not having much experience with ‘guy’ movies, I turn to the Dope.

So, what are your favorite vigilante/revenge movies?

Lucky # Slevin for English viewing and the “sympathy series” from Korea (I believe they’re Korean): Oldboy, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. The latter being quite a distant third in quality of the trio.

Denzel Washington’s “Man on Fire.”

Braveheart
Crank
Death Wish
Dirty Hairy
Get Carter
Gladiator
Kill Bill
Man on Fire
Payback
Shaft
Straw Dogs
Taxi Driver
The Transporter
Unforgiven

A History of Violence

I love For a Few Dollars More. The climactic duel is one of the awesomest things ever committed to film. The movie is very eerie* and has some great gunslinging. It’s not immediately apparent that this is a revenge movie, but stick with it.

ETA: *in parts. It’s not creepy throughout.

The Extermintor is one of my favs…probly cus it is the 1st time I remember seeing boobies.Went with my dad…he told me not to tell mom.

Not much of a Stallone fan, but the original “First Blood” is actually pretty good, though the sequels are not so hot…

Ahhh damn you!

How could I forget this movie? :smack:

Kind Hearts and Coronets

Hey thanks for the suggestions guys! I’m aware of some of these movies but haven’t seen very many. Off the update my Netflix queue…

Point Blank

And High Plains Drifter & Pale Rider.

I thought Lady Vengeance was possibly the best of the trilogy, at least equal to Oldboy. An excellent series.

Is that so? I think Mr. Vengeance was the best of the three. Oldboy started getting really weird (relative to the whole series obviously lol) at the end and that lowered it’s status in my mind.

Mr. Vengeance had a coherent story, nothing too outlandish (relative to the others) and it’s lack of dialogue, while still telling a story was a very pleasant departure from Hollywood’s let-me-explain-every-little-detail-about-what’s-going-on.

As for Lady Vengeace, it seemed to drag on a bit during the middle. With some of the scenes not particularly advancing the plot or story or anything.

Mr. Vengeance to me, had the whole package very neatly tied together, where the others had just a little loose string here or there.

Agreed on the last point though.

Punisher: War Zone

Taken

And if you’ve never seen the tv show Dexter, definitely check it out. The first two seasons are on DVD, and the third should be out soon.

Nevada Smith with Steve McQueen is an excellent revenge movie!

The Limey.

Hamlet or Hamlet or even Hamlet. (The greatest revenge play of them all)
