Live to 2015.
That’s a lofty goal! How old are you now?
To quote Indiana Jones, “It’s not the years, honey, it’s the mileage.”
Good on ya!
When I told my doctor that we joined the gym, he told me not to have super specific goals, as I shouldn’t set myself up to feel like a failure. I do challenge myself to do a little more every time we go (instead of 1.5 miles on the treadmill, make it 1.75 at a higher incline), but if I cannot accomplish it I try not to get frustrated. I move on to something else and push myself there.
“They” say your body is an instrument. Mine is rusty and out of tune. I can’t expect it to sound/be beautiful right away. I am annoyed that I let myself get the way I am (granted, being ill doesn’t help), but I will do what I need to in order to feel as good as I can.
Perhaps his age is on a knead-to-know basis.

I’m 45, it’s not a state secret.
Another couch potato checking in. I lost a bunch of weight on Weight Watchers back around 2005, then discovered World of Warcraft in 2006 and…well…found it all again! That lasted for a few years, but now as I look at 50 staring me in the face later this year, I’ve decided I’ve had enough of this and I’m going to get into something approximating shape (“shape” being defined as “something that isn’t round.”)
I’ve joined a gym and hired a personal trainer. Two sessions so far and while I haven’t seen any results yet to speak of, I think this is going to work. I hate exercising (especially before I start seeing results) so having her to guide and cajole me and show me when I’m doin’ it wrong is a huge help.
Soo…my goals for this year are:
- Attend the gym regularly and keep up the personal training.
- Improve my eating habits, and continue to follow the Weight Watchers points plan.
- Lose enough weight by the end of July that I can wear the costume I want for Comic Con and not look silly.
- Get down as close as possible to my ideal weight by the time I turn 50 in November (even significant progress toward this total will make me happy, even if I don’t quite hit it by then).
- Gain some upper body strength. I want to be able to do at least one pull up by April or May.
- Increas my lung compacity. I want to run a mile without stopping.
How will I accomplish this? I don’t know.
You trying to show me up?
I’d like to do another 1,500 to 2,000 miles this year; lose about 10 pounds.
I’ve found that as long as I’m moving in the right direction, I’m okay with slow progress. Hitting a wall, however, is frustrating.
Get down to my goal weight of 185 from my current weight of 201, by March 25th. I’m counting calories and exercising every other day. Seems to be going well. The problem with counting calories is that I’m actually finding it hard to eat *enough *food.
To lose the last hardest.ever.10lbs.once.and.for.all!! Why are they so hard to lose?!
I’m 5’2" and currently 125lb. I want to get to 115lb and build more muscle.
I also would like to beat my previous time on a 10K - a local race called The Butte to Butte.
Two years ago when I ran it with my then 12 year old daughter, she passed me unwinded and dancing 30 minutes into it. She waived and said very nonchalantly, “Oh, hi mom.”
GRRR!
Are you going to be trying this at a gym? For pull-ups, start with the assisted pull-up machine. That way you can do pull-ups consisting of less than your actual bodyweight, but still be learning the motion. Also, the lat pull-down. Same idea, similar motion, but you can start off with a lot less weight and work your way up.
One DDP Extreme Psycho Pushup.
I may not get there but I know my overall fitness will improve along the way.
By mini, your mean Olympic, right? That’s one of my goals too!
It’s the weight that’s making you look silly, right? ![]()
There are some excellent goals in this thread, and I wish everyone the best in achieving them. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t make the December 31st deadline though. This past December, I achieved my goal from 2012, and it felt great! I was trying to get a squat/deadlift/bench total > 1000 lbs, and after two years of trying, I smasehd it.
This year, aside from the triathlon, I am aiming to enter my first powerlifting meet. I have look at results in my weight class in this federation, and I can’t even touch last place, but it will be a good goal to drive my in-the-gym training, and if I set PRs, I will consider it a success.
Pretty simple. I want to average 5 days a week working out and lose probably 25 pounds. BMI says it should be more but I want to keep muscle mass as much as possible.
I was doing pretty well until the middle to end of last year. Then some minor nagging injuries, work stuff and other distractions happened. Stopped going to the gym. Now I’m at the age where I can put on weight rapidly and I did. When I was 18 and wanted to put on weight I couldn’t no matter how hard I tried.
Heehee! Well, I’ll look silly anyway, but at least if I lose the weight I have a better chance of looking appropriately silly. I want to crossplay the Tenth Doctor, who’s…a bit skinny. If I don’t get down far enough, I’ll just pick a different Doctor, like Four. Nobody cares what you look like to be Four, as long as you have the scarf! ![]()
I had been smoking weed since 14 years old up into 22 +/- a year with about 18 months stopping in all that time… and a drinking rate of 2 weekends a month in all, that time…
since 2010 I have replaced smoking any weed whatsoever, with drinking, on a 3 day on 2 day off cycle… I think… Im almost certain… I have to start smoking weed again.
Well, how’s everyone doing?
1 - Progressing steadily with the addition of some strength training. Started slow because of the snow and not being able to get on trails, I’ll be pushing it to make this one.
2 - Doing this loop for the first time this spring on Sunday. That’ll be a good benchmark.
3 - Progressing…I can run that pace 4+ miles now.
4 - Probably not going to happen.
I hope to remain STD free.
