Honorable mention: The Silver Chalice

I will admit I don’t care much for Paul Newman’s movies. I admire Paul Newman, I can see why he was a big star, and his charities are remarkable (can you imagine any of today’s blah herd doing such a thing??) but I can’t really get into his movies, with a few exceptions. For some reason they leave me cold. I feel the same way about George Clooney.)

For those who didn’t already know, he’s getting a USPS postage stamp later this year.

Chefguy, have you read the book? It’s maybe my favorite novel. And, although I like the movie just fine, the book is far more nuanced, and tells a different story. Check it out.

I don’t think I was aware that it’s also a book; I’ll give it a shot. I’ll tell you, the scene when Newman walks into his old house, where he muses on his parents’ relationship, is probably his most powerful moment in film. He really should have won the Oscar for that role. Instead, they gave it to Tom Hanks.
