Wrens, goldfinches, and sparrows come right up to the patio. Farther out, there are robins, bluejays, cardinals, and the occasional woodpecker, and sometimes I see the neighborhood owl sitting in a tree at dusk. There’s a hawk in the neighborhood too, but you usually have to go outside to see him.
The building where I work sits on a large piece of land. Out to one side is a place with a group of trees and a picnic table. Right now, there are at least a hundred robins over there, alternating between the low branches of the trees and the ground. I have to assume they’re looking for bugs, because I don’t think they’ll find many worms around here. They must have hit the motherlode, as this is the second day they’ve been out there.
