I read a book in the 70’s that was an old hard cover. I had to do a book report on it. It was hundreds of pages long. A boy goes to San Francisco and I believe lives in in a brothel for a time. The San Francisco earthquake of 1906 occurs and the town burns. I think the boy ends up digging for a box that contained something valuable. Do you have any idea what this book is. I thought Little Men, but a word search of that book’s text didn’t match key words I tried.
The guy might have been in his mid to late teens.
