This is pretty similar to what Sunspace and ftg have said, but…
How about a real news channel. One with reporters that actually go places and do in-depth reporting. One that reports from all over the world, using and translating foreign sources. One that would spend an hour going over Brazilian politics, say, or really detailing what Putin is doing.
They could have real debate about issues. Conservatives would be more than welcome. A conservative economist could explain, in detail, why tax cuts stimulate the economy, and why deficits don’t matter.
No Kobe, no Laci, No Blowhards, no softball celeb interviews (i.e. Larry King), very few panel shows, no shouting or interupting in debates.
It ain’t gonna happen, but boy would it be great!
How about a Fanboy/girl channel that shows only reruns and old movies that have cult followings. (X Files, Twin Peaks, Freaks and Geeks, Donnie Darko, Amazon Women on the Moon, et al)/ It would also show pilots of shows that never made it.
How about a live video game channel of the Dungeons and Dragons/Sims variety? It broadcasts a series of long-running, live-action programs, a lot like the soaps.
In the Dungeions and Dragons programs, you’d have two sets of “players”. One set would be like traditional DiD players, selecting characters, determining their goals, and moving them about. Antoher set of players would be the actors, people representing the DiD characters who would act out the quest – American Gladiator types in B-movie adventure garb, if you will.
The SIMS thing I see more as a series of soap operas, as each player attempts to make their character – also played by an actor/actress – succeed. As in the SIMS game, the player has to help the SIM “actor” proceed with their lives, with the SIM “actor” free to improvise within the conditons the player sets, but also constrained by them.
I see this one as having a LOT of potential, especially if they allow romantic relationships to be part of the game. (I see it flopping eventually if they don’t.)
How about an All-Stargate, All the Time channel?
You see, I’m NOT a fan of Stargate, and between SciFi, Fox, and our local NBC affiliate, the damn thing seems to be playing about 24x7. Put it all on its own channel, and we can get back to watching better stuff on the other channels…
Of course, the same thing could be said of Law & Order…
I’d like to see a 24-hour test pattern channel. All test patterns, all the time. Of course, if the station ever needs to interrupt their normal programming and run a test pattern, we may never know the difference.
Alternately, I’d like to see a 24-hour New York subway cam station. Nothing but discreet shots of muggings and drunks peeing on the tracks.
