What can be done about a lost bus ticket?

A friend has misplaced a bus ticket. She called the bus company, and they told her tough luck, she’s got to have the ticket. She offered to go to the bus station and show the credit card statement, but they said no to that too. It has to be the ticket.

Is there anything that can be done? She’s only called the customer service number so far, and is planning to go to the station when the office is open. I suppose it’s possible that the folks at the office will be more understanding, but if they aren’t … Is this something to take up with the credit card company? Will the CC company go to bat for her? The bus company wants her to buy a new ticket (not just a replacement fee). If the bus co. told me that, I’d probably tell them to stick it, and find another way to travel. Any advice to pass on? She’s pretty upset, and I don’t know what to tell her.

I am not the familar with bus tickets but I do not believe they are specific to a person. In other words if this were a plane ticket then the CC company might help becuase the ticket is specific to you. If the bus ticket is just a general ticket then your friend is probably (rightfully) out of luck.

I agree. How can she prove that the ticket she payed for hasn’t already been used?

What the others have said. AFAIK, a bus ticket is like cash. If you lose it and someone else finds it there’s nothing to stop somebody else from using it.

Would you expect to go to the bank and demand a replacement for the $20 bill that you lost?

I would have thought the same thing, but her name was on the ticket. Here is the company’s policy on tickets:

Which is why it’s puzzling to me that there isn’t some sort of ticket replacement charge, rather than having to buy a new one.

Huh?

You mean you have to show your ID to use a bus ticket?

Is it a bus ticket or a bus pass? Meaning, is this a distance carrier, like Greyhound, and it’s a one-trip or round-trip ticket or is it a local transit authority, and she lost a monthly pass?
