1987 David Bowie concert in Stuttgart if I recall correctly the venue. That was some tour too. Made the news a lot. The concert in Berlin had people scaling the wall.
They cancelled their original Phoenix date on that tour, too, but Mr. Legend and I got to see them in September instead after the tour was rescheduled (following Berry’s recovery, Mike Mills’ surgery and Michael Stipe’s hernia - we felt lucky there was still a band to play at all).
More recently, Wilco cancelled their Santa Fe show in April after Jeff Tweedy went into rehab. It doesn’t look like they plan to make that one up.
Do you remember why it was cancelled?
I had tickets for Nirvana. First the gig got postponed because he was not very well. Then made very sure he wasn’t going to do any gigs at all anymore.
Counting Crows start of this year. Adam’s grandma died.
Yeh yeh yeh. So they suck. They used to be alright.
Back in 1986 I was sitting in the audience (in a close to the stage seat) waiting for James Brown to appear (Westbury Music Fair on Long Island). (There was an early and a late show scheduled; this was the early show).
James comes strutting down the aisle to the stage and proceeds to tell us how much he’d love to play for us but the band’s bus went to the wrong venue (somewhere in New Jersey) and that our show was cancelled.
But he says they will still play the second show and that we can trade in our tickets if we desire. A mob scene ensues at the box office. When I finally get to the counter they only have last row seats left. I know, I should have done the trade but I was so pissed off that I was losing my “close to the stage seat” that I said hell with it and got my money back.
Luckily James (and the band) came back in 1987 and the show went smoothly.
In 1997 or 1998 - Weird Al Yankovic had a show scheduled in Indianapolis; he cancelled because it was supposed to be an all-ages show & the venue was a bar. IIRC, we had to send the tickets back to get our refund.
September 11, 2001 - Jimmy Buffett at Deer Creek/Verizon center near Indianapolis.
Thankfully - he rescheduled for 2 weeks later & put on a hell of a show! I think we still have the ticket stub with the original date somewhere.
If it makes you feel any better, this concert wasn’t canceled at Giants’ Stadium, but Axl walked off stage and effectively shut it down for the night. Boy, was I glad I’d paid good hard-earned allowance money to go see that. mutter
I’m still mad.
