What!? Can't stand the smell of coffee?

Wow. Coffee taste-and-smell lover here.

I had no idea there were so many people in the world that hated the smell of coffee.

I’ll try to be more sensitive in the future. :dubious:

Never liked the taste of coffee itself. It’s too bitter for me. I could probably get used to it if i put about half a pound of sugar in it, but what’s the point?

I do, on the other hand, love the smell.

I also like the taste of many coffee-flavoured things, like coffee ice-cream and tiramisu. I also love choclate-coated espresso beans.

Go figure!

If you can’t stand the smell of coffee wake up and get out of the kitchen.

I dislike the smell of even freshly brewing coffee, and absolute hate the smell of old grounds. My partner was a coffee freak, made his own expresso and cappucino, too, and would buy all different sorts of beans, blend his own, and leave wet coffee grounds all over the counter, in the sink, bin under the sink. It ruined meals for me – the sudden, overpowering funk of hot coffee…the whole house smelt of the old grounds, too, as he would make several cups a day.

When his doctor told him that for health reasons he had to give up coffee, I was happy enough to go dancing naked through the streets.

The smell of coffee doesn’t bother me as much as, say, cigarette smoke, but I don’t like it, either. I have a kind of weird sense of smell, though. I like the smell of skunk, (quite a bit, for the most part) and absolutely can’t stand the smell of fresh-cut grass. Sometimes the latter honestly makes me want to throw up.

I don’t care for the drink – but that’s probably because I seem incapable of tasting hot liquids, aside from some soup broths. I cannot taste hot chocolate, hot tea or coffee at all.

However, I HATE the smell of coffee. I hate the way it smells when its brewing, I hate the way it smells in the cup of the person next to me, and I hate the smell of it on people’s breath. I won’t talk to people who are drinking or who have junk drank coffee, if I can avoid it. Same with people who smoke cigarettes or cigars.

I do not own a coffee machine, and never will one pass through my doorway.

Really strong stuff smells like bowel movement to me. (Whenever I walk by a Starbucks I think “Phew, time to scoop the litterbox!”) If you drink super weak generic stuff like my parents used to drink it doesn’t really make enough smell to bother me.

I too hate the smell of coffee. I became somewhat aclimated to it during college so that not I can tolerate it but in high school I wouldn’t even go into a coffee shop because it smelled so vile. Being from Seattle, which had a Starbucks on every corner before the rest of the country did, my classmated found this seriously wierd.

Ordinarily, I love the smell of (good) coffee brewing.

The smell of stale coffee is fairly noxious. If there’s a little left in my cup and I forget about it, it drives me crazy. This makes absolutely no sense to me at all, since I would expect room-temperature coffee to be fairly inert, as opposed to vapour-producing hot coffee.

I actually opened this thread because I was on public transit today and was grossed-out by some guy drinking gas-station coffee next to me. It stank. My stomach was doing flip-flops. I imagined that his paper cup was full of three-day-old brew with cigarette butts steeping in it. Coffee is just not supposed to reek like that.

I like the smell of coffee in almost all forms.

I generally like the smell and taste of coffee, except when I have had a migraine headache. The smell of the preground stuff as I’m scooping it out of the can is repulsive to me.

Cal, ditto here. Love the smell, hate the taste. And actually, I hate the smell of Starbuck’s Hazelnut Concoction, which is sold here in my building. It smells like chemicals used in industrial cleaning.

If you’re still grouping into demographic buckets:
I dislike the taste of any type of coffee (and I have tried several types - just didn’t like any).
I dislike the smell of coffees (I’m [at best] neutral to some speciality coffee smell, but to me plain old strong black coffee smell really, really reeks ).
Parents have been heavy coffee drinkers for as long as I can remember.
There is not, and never will be, a coffee maker in my apartment There is a teapot, because although I dislike the taste of tea [tea usually smells OK, though], I can at least offer tea to the [very, very, very small number :frowning: ] of women visitors to my apartment.
