’76 Chevy ½ ton short bed 4x4. Actually, I still have it. It’s my plow truck now.
I beat the hell out of it, and just can’t break it.
I’d love to get a new one. Less rust.
Yep.
Nissan Pathfinder for myself. My last one went 210,000 miles without a hitch. Oh, I did the necessary upkeep, but that was it. It NEVER stranded me or left me in the learch. Says a lot about a car that went into 4x4 every day 6 months out of the year and operated in -20f, in sleet, mud, gravel roads and very deep snow.
When I sold it, the only thing wrong was a speaker that sometimes didn’t work, and the dome light would not come on automatically when you opened the driver door. 13 years of abuse and that was it.
I upgraded to a new one. An ’06, 21,000 miles in just over a year. I beat on it too. So far so good. Love it.
Unfortunatly, my Wife has an '02 Grand Jeep. It needs major work every year. Looks like the heating/AC controls are screwed up. Again.
1989 Toyota 4Runner SR5 V6. 4WD,5-speed, removable moon roof and fiberglass shell. Only a 2-door, but the entire rear bed was accessible via the dual sliding side windows and the open tail gate (NOT a liftback!). Decent factory sound system. Just the perfect camping/roadtrip vehicle. I’d replace the head gasket first thing, though.
My 1990 Geo Tracker. It never broke down, but I replaced the soft top and muffler. It was very reliable, it always started, even in below zero temps, and for a cheap 4WD it (more than once) got me in/out of places that other 4WDs couldn’t accomplish.
I’m not sure if they offered the Neon in standard, but I’d buy it again if it were AND it was the classic late-90s look. It had almost the mileage of the Kia Rio but with better stability at 90+mph (and I’m not just saying that, a gust of wind can almost make me swerve off the highway with a Rio.)
I thought it would be fun to have my Old English White 1966 MGB again. Fun car. So I’ve recreated it, only this time with overdrive. Just waiting for the final panel fitting to be done before I post photos. (The original body guy did a piss-poor job of it.)
I wouldn’t mind having my 911SC back. I may get another one eventually, but I’m not in any hurry. Other priorities on the burners.
We had a '90 Suziki Sidekick. Basically a 4 door Tracker.
Good little car. Our driving is either highway, or gravel roads and deep snow. It did the job. It was light enough that when it did get stuck, it wasn’t too much of an operation to get it out.
It was my Wifes car. And I did joke with her that it felt like I was riding around in a snare drum (it was noisy). But it never broke down.
I inherited my grandfather’s Rambler when he stopped driving. I don’t remember the year but it was definitely older than 1970. It was a solid car, I did feel like had I ever been hit by someone else they would have taken all the damage. But it drove like a semi-truck, not that I’d ever driven a semi but it’s what I imagined it would feel like. Steering certainly gave my arms a workout so I could see how someone not used to it could lose control. However, I never wanted to own this car and never would again.
Well, let me just put it this way-one week ago I was in a major 4 car collision on the 101 freeway just south of San Francisco International. Traffic came to a stop so I had to slow down and ended up coming to a complete stop with one car length between me and the car ahead of me.
I was rear ended at 30 mph. The guy who rearended me was rearended by his own tailgater at approximately the same or a higher speed. The force of the collision drove me into the car in front of me (the car that suffered the lightest damage).
I got the estimate for the work back this week-$8,500 and I’m going to get it back August 22nd.
You have to see the state of this car (unfortunately I didn’t get pictures while my boyfriend was here). We drove it back to LOS ANGELES. By taping up the back. It was freaking incredible.
Aside from bad whiplash (which we’re both just starting to get over) we walked away with zero injuries. The cars who rearended us and each other are totalled. I mean, like smoking, windshield shattered, fluids leaking shattered.
I realise the position in which we were hit, and the fact that I had distance between me and the car in front means that we weren’t going to be windshield shattered or whatnot-but considering the heavy damage to the car I am AMAZED that we walked away uninjured, and that the car was still driveable.
Made me a Honda customer for life. I’m getting a Civic Hybrid next year.
1971 Datsun 240-Z. I’ve owned three of them, and loved each one before they rusted out. Make them again exactly the same, but with modern metal treatments to prevent rust, and I’d buy one.
When I was a teenager, we had a 1979 Ford Bronco. The old ones, which were huge. We only had it for 5 years (we got in in 84) but it seemed like more at the time. I learned to drive in it. It served us well. And I miss it.
I just want them to start making them again in a super-fuel-efficient model…
My '74 Camaro (bright red, exceedingly cool & quite forgiving of a young drivers idiocy. Also paid a good chunk of tuition by teaching me to double clutch & still win), or my 90 Chevy Cavalier. Dorky, boring, amazing gas mileage & pratically indestructable – 350,000 hard miles, 1 water pump & a serpentine belt, and 32 MPG to the day it died.
