What cities have airports within the city?

I didn’t realize this until recently, but it seems that very few cities have airports within the city limits. BWI is not actually in Baltimore, SFO is pretty far south of San Francisco, and JFK is in… New Jersey?

Boston/Logan is actually inside of Boston. I can’t quite tell, but it looks like Monroe County (ROC) is inside of Rochester, NY.

What major airports are in their own cities?

I’m asking about US airports only, but feel free to include others. Is Heathrow in London?

Both JFK and LGA are in Queens. I think Midway Airport is in Chicago proper.

I’m pretty sure that O’Hare and Midway are both inside Chicago’s city limits. Maybe Jacksonville, FL?

Yes, it’s in Hillingdon, which is one of the outer boroughs of Greater London. London City Airport is much closer to the centre.

It’s within Greater London, which I think counts as a city – its executive head is the Mayor of London. (Though that position is not the same as the Lord Mayor of London.)

New York City, the largest city in the U.S., includes two major airports, JFK and LGA (La Guardia)

Phoenix.

One more: LAX (Los Angeles International) is in the city of Los Angeles.

Mineta (SJC) is within the borders of San Jose.

Milwaukee has Mitchell International and Timmerman

I’m pretty sure that’s in Jacksonville. But what about before the city took over the entire county?

Philadelphia International is mostly in Philadelphia. It expanded into Delaware county (PA) over the years.

Fort Worth (Meacham), Dallas (Love Field), Houston (Hobby and Intercontinental), San Antonio, Corpus Christi and Austin for sure, and I think that Hartsfield is part of Atlanta.

Not sure about Kansas City- it’s pretty far outside of town.

On the flip side, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is in neither Dallas nor Fort Worth. It’s technically in “DFW Airport, Texas”.

Berlin used to have two, now we only have one, and that will also be shut down within a couple of years. Oh well, we had some good times…

San Jose. Really close to downtown. Like actually in downtown (if San Jose qualifies as having a downtown).

Soon to be known as “San Jose Norm Mineta Silicon Valley We’re not San Francisco International” Airport.

Dayton Ohio (They annexed up to it). Columbus Ohio. Indianapolis Indiana… There are lots of airports within the city boundaries.

Yes, both are in Chicago proper, although O’Hare is kind of “pasted on” with a thin annexation corridor. This is Chicago proper, and if you look at the top left, in the area marked “76,” that’s O’Hare. Midway, on the other hand, has residential City of Chicago housing literally across the street on all four sides.

San Diego International Airport is in the city limits.

The airport is technically a part of Rochester, NY. Whether it’s within Rochester is a tricky question. It’s not contiguous to the rest of the city, since a road separates it.

PDX is within the City of Portland.

I’ve heard that Alaskan cities tend to be built around airports the way that cities in the lower 48 are built around highways, rivers, or railroads.

There are also probably plenty of minor airports in city limits, too. Cleveland’s major airport, Cleveland Hopkins, is just barely within city limits (I think the city assimilated the land when the airport was built), but there’s also the general-aviation-only Burke Lakefront Airport, which is practically downtown.
