What cities will forever be known for one specific thing/event?

Sydney - Opera House (what else?)

Lodi (CA) (think CCR)

The harbour bridge?
The AMP Centrepoint Tower?
King’s Cross?
Bondi Beach?

I’m also not convinced by the suggestion of Manchester by another poster - there are surely lots of things you could associate with the city, from music to clubs to football teams to canals.

From my recent time in Australia - Gallipoli.

Going back to the OP, that’s hardly the only thing that Manchester is known for (e.g. Boddingtons). I doubt it would make the top ten. Much as it grieves me, being from t’other side of ’ Pennines, I suspect Manchester United would be the best known aspect of Manchester.

Never heard of any of them. Sorry.

Vichy

You’ve never heard of the Sydney Harbour Bridge? Man, get yourself a holiday booked there now!

Sorry, this boy don’t do Australia (I’ll stop now - I’ve already got the French pissed  )

Yeah…there’s some great suites up on top of ‘The Coathanger’ (aka Sydney Harbour Bridge). Very exclusive and the views are just out of this world. Oh, did I mention I am the booking agent, and we’ve just had some last minute cancellations, so if you want to send a deposit…

happyheathen, there was just an Olympic Games in Sydney.

Leavenworth, KS - famous for the Federal Penn and Military DB, often referenced in many John Wayne movies or other military and western movies.

“You’re gonna end up in Leavenworth if you pull that trigger!”

:smack: It certainly is!

(I used up all my spelling in that post on Tucumcari, Tehachapi and Tonapah!)

I’m really surprised that nobody has taken a shot at my hometown, Cleveland, home of the Cuyahoga River, which in the early 1970’s caught fire…

…and as a result of spontaneous combustion, no less.

However, the notoriety has probably faded. Also, it’s now known for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame., so perhaps it’s disqualified…

It’s also known as the birthplace of the “full Cleveland”

I don’t think I know him, but NEXT time you happen to be in Bellingham, you will have someone ELSE to visit…and I promise to be home. I don’t hunt. 'Course, my red hair isn’t all that BRIGHT anymore…more auburn…but I think you will find me an acceptible substitute.
