A snow-free climate. Bam. I’m happy as a clam then.
Southern California coast south of Los Angeles. I can’t imagine nicer weather. Rarely ever hot, never real hot, never very cold. Seldom drops below 42 degrees early mornings middle of winter. Seldom goes above 87 degrees in summer. Not a real big difference between daytime temps in the summer and winter.
I grew up in Ottawa in the 1970s and lived there in the late '90s and lived in Montreal in the early '90s and back then the winters then were not the crappy, damp, perpetual freezing rain/cold rain garbage we get in the same regions now.
It was bloody hot and humid in the summer, which was a good thing then, autumn was beautiful, and winter was generally in the -20 to -30 celcius and dry. Those winters were wonderful.
Now winters are crap. The last few years temperature would fluctuate between -5 and +5 with rain and freezing rain a lot of the time.
Like many I picked Mediterranean, it just strikes me as the all around most pleasant. I would probably pick Marine West Coast next, but really only in BC or maybe Washington.
I like where I live: it never gets too hot or too cold for more than a couple of days at a time (and people who live in other climates would rightfully mock our definitions of too hot and too cold!). There’s plenty of rain, so everything is lovely and green. We have a lot of weather, but the climate is pretty benign.
Right where I am in the Temperate Rainforest of Vancouver Island. I think it has to be one of the best places to live in the world. Today it was 28c/82f and walking in the forest with full old-growth shade and cool little creeks was deluxe.
We get a lot of rain here which gives us the amazing greenery and it rarely snows. Summers are beautiful and warm.
There is an Urban Legend that a U.S. Navy officer, desiring the ideal place for retirement, used the Navy meteorological resources – climate records, climate models, planning charts, etc. – to identify the “best” climate in the U.S. The legend has it that he pinpointed Lemon Grove, CA (an exurb of San Diego.)
I doubt it’s true…but Lemon Grove does have very, very nice climate.
