I have known people who believe in the Loch Ness monster, UFO’s and alien abductions, the faked moon landing, multiple JFK shooters, the government inventing and distributing crack, Jeb Bush giving his brother Florida in 2000 and 2004, and probably others I can’t remember.
Personally, I don’t believe any of these. No passing judgement, just a friendly discussion. Does anyone believe any of these?
Well, I think I am so damn brave to post this.
Believe in as being the literal truth? None. Believe in as “It’s an interesting possibility”, however, the answer is two.
First off, J.F.K. I have never read any of the literature, or saw the movie, but I have read the entirely fictious (and very entertaining) book Who Killed Kennedy, The shocking secret linking a Time Lord and a President. I also saw the episode of the Sci-fi comedy, Red Dwarf, which delt with it. As for “non-fiction”, I readUFOs, JFK, and Elvis : conspiracies you don’t have to be crazy to believe / Richard Belzer. and found the case he made was vewry convincing. However, since I am not an obsesed with it, nor do I really worry if it was true or not, I have not bothered to read anymore on the issue. from an amazon.com review:
Also, I think one other conspiracy I have heard is very intriging, (Besides the one that av8rmike proposes exists.) but this post is long enough, and I will post it later.
I believe Oswald shot Kennedy, Ray shot King, and Booth shot Lincoln. I believe Elvis Presley, Jim Morrison, and Tupac Shakur are all dead and Paul McCartney is alive. I believe human beings built the pyramids and went to the moon. I believe grays, sea monsters, yetis, and vampires are all fictional.
So what conspiracy theories do I give some credance to?
I think the FBI may have tampered with evidence after the JFK assassination in order to conceal the possibility they failed to investigate Oswald’s suspicious activities before the shooting.
I believe Aaron Burr was planning something.
I’m open to the possibility that Edward deVere wrote the Shakespeare plays.
Sadly, the factual answer is yes, some people believe strange things.
Since GQ is for factual questions I’m going to close this. If you want to rant about people believing in strange things, open up a thread in the Pit. If you want to start a debate, you can start a thread in Great Debates.
