What could Obama do that would utterly change your position on him?

Military spending isn’t an “investment”. The military neither appreciates nor pays (monetary) dividends.

Sure: Where the bailouts stand - Nov. 26, 2008 (and lots of other resources.)

That link is reputable, but not very clear… here’s a clearer link, but from a blogger (I’m not a fan of his, but Mish is well regarded in the economics bloggers sphere and I don’t distrust his cites): Mish's Global Economic Trend Analysis: Bailout Pledges Hit $7.7 Trillion It links to a Bloomberg article, but Bloomberg is down right now.

To be fair, I’m sure that includes a lot of loans, but, well, subsidized loans also imply diverted resources even if they do get paid off, and even if a small-ish fraction were plain vanilla bailouts, that’s just HUGE, needless to say.

Ah, you’ve named another scenario wherein I would become a supporter of his. Now that would be awesome.

Announces, “I’ve determined what America needs for its morale is a conflict it can actually win. Therefore, I have declared war on Greenland.”

Shoots a man in Reno just to watch him die

Appoints Bill Ayers head of Homeland Security

Implements “Pants-Optional Fridays” at the White House

Adopts a cute puppy for the girls, then bites its head off during the State of the Union address.
If he does any of this, I’ll back him 1,000%

Okay, thanks. I was imagining that that $7 trillion would be taxpayer money down the drain, but it sounds like it’s an absolute worst-case scenario, that a lot of it won’t actually be spent, and a lot of what’s spent will be returned in investments. Not as bad as I imagined.

Well, sure, we’ll all be his supporters once his alien minions appear. What choice will we have?

Daniel

Don’t blame me- I voted for [del]McCain[/del] Kodos.

Eat babies on live TV.

I really wish you people would specify whether each act would make you feel better or worse about Obama.

This.

Two, but very badly. I don’t see why I have to defend W (or even McCain). The question was what would completely change my opinion on Obama (for the better). Now, as for what could make him worse (I’m going into his administration pretty open-minded): oppose gay marriage, keep bailing companies out, nationalize healthcare or adopt a single-payer model, put pressure on Israel to reach a premature Palestinian “solution”, do nothing about Social Security, or try to control education through the federal government á la Bush.

ETA: I forgot “be a big Drug Warrior, or let Biden do it.” He has a history of that. (Biden, that is.)

Have an affair in the White House.

Turn out to really be the Antichrist.

you realize it is not a part of the Republican POLICY to “lower tax burdens for all Americans, reduce the size of government, reduce taxes on corporations so they can afford to expand/hire, cut foreign aid, invest in the military, and reduce government spending.” It is a part of the Republican PLATFORM to say they’ll do those things, or to claim they HAVE done those things. Since Reagan, they’ve been bigger spenders than Democrats, but they spend the money on their pals and their ill-thought-through notions of adjusting society and widening the gaps between income levels, but they’re actually no good for an of the economic policies you list. They are good, however, at misreading the Constitution to abolish many of its protection for American citizens.

So: Obama would lose me if he reinforced the policies that have taken away my civil rights under Republican presidents.

My opinion of Obama has already changed.

Rick Warren.

When I heard about that, I removed my Obama yard sign.

Opposition. My opinion of him would improve considerably if he vetoes the impending assault weapon ban.

Please specify ahead of time whether shooting Janet Reno counts.

No, that would be shooting “a man in” Janet Reno.

Unlikely.

blah

It is also government spending. You can’t have both reductions in one and investments in the other - they’re the same thing!

Have an affair.

Guess I got beat.

Well, the Rick Warren decision improved my view of him, and the Gene Robinson decision hasn’t set it back all that much.

What would really improve my view of him- if he goes through with his proposed wage-earner tax cuts, and if he either never got around to, or even better, openly announced his changed his mind on FOCA and EFCA.

What would dim my view of him- if he concluded his inauguration oath with “So help me, Allah.”
