What could this place I found on Google Maps be?

“I been in the right place but it must have been the wrong time
I’d have said the right thing but I must have used the wrong line
I been in the right trip but I must have used the wrong car
My head was in a bad place and I’m wondering what it’s good for
I been in the right place but it must have been the wrong time
My head was in a bad place but I’m having such a good time”

You must mean the old Same Place. It’s right out back. Here’s the key.

This is not the place you’re looking for.

Take a left at Wilson’s old place… where the big barn used to be.

If that’s meant to teach urban warfare, it seems to fail on several counts, unless the “urban” in question is American.

How would that help in Mogadishu or Kandahar?

If it’s not one place, it’s another.

That area is part of the base. Some shooting ranges are north west of there. I know a guy that owns a wrecking yard a few miles from there, got in big trouble for dumping old tires on base property. Back in my younger days it was a popular place to go ride dirt bikes.

Ya can’t get there from here.

Definitely a MOUT facility; recognized it immediately. You can see other marksmanship ranges in that picture just to the upper left.

It’s not the same place, and don’t call me Shirley!

This is not my beautiful place!

It shares a ZIP code with Yelm, Washington, which hosts a number of families of people who are stationed at Joint Base Lewis–McChord, which contains Army Fort Lewis, which contains a simulated urban environment, which I’m pretty sure is what Mock City, Washington is.

Upon further investigation, it appears that all the roads that lead to Mock City are closed to civilian traffic, so that settles it; it must exist for training purposes.

But while we’re on the subject, what must this be? It’s just down the road from Mock City, and it looks a bunch of shipping containers, plus a stable and a row of porta-potties off to the northeast.

What sort of training would be happening there?

Another training area. The thing that looks like a stable has glass embedded in concrete on the top. Saw someone slice his hand open on it.

Just randomly roaming about in the area: Ramtha School of Enlightenment? Muck Creek?

And a whooooole lot of nothingness. Looks very weird to eyes accustomed to the Boston area.

Returning to Mock City a moment, why are some of the white roadways superimposed over the trees? Are those just symbols for roads that Google Maps put in on top of the photo?

There are tracks or unsurfaced roads running under the trees. Google does overlay roadway shading on its satellite view.

How does it not? You’re working on battle drills and tactics not training for specific missions. Room and building clearing drills will basically be the same. So will patrolling through a built up area. Once those battle drills become second nature it’s easier to adapt them to different architecture.

I know a place where we can go
I know a place where the lights are low
You gotta love this place I know
I know a place where we can go
