What country would you most like to travel to?

Canada.

I live here but I’ve only visited a tiny part of my own country. I want to see the Rockies and the prairies and the Maritimes and Nunavut…

If I have to go to another country, I’d take Italy.

Hmm. If we’re talking places I might conceivably go in the near future, I’d say Thailand and Cambodia. Or Australia. Or all three, if I ever manage to get another summer off just to travel.

If it’s places-on-the-life-list, I’d like to add Japan, Turkey, Peru, Israel, Jordan, Greece, Portugal, Poland, Guatemala, Morocco, and probably quite a few others.

Israel, Iceland, Tibet, Japan, Romania.

I actually checked into this awhile back. They have a point system, depending on your age and you occupation, etc. - needless to say, they don’t want a bunch of elderly unemployed people moving there to get on their medical system. But if you are young-ish and have a good profession (nursing was it for me, an ace in the hole almost anywhere in the world) then you are considered a good candidate. I’m not sure about the cut off point being 45 years old, as was posted earlier. You can do a search on it, if you’re serious.

The next countries I visit will be the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. Can we schedule a Prague Dope Fest for sometime next spring???

According to this site its 55 years.

I think you need 100 points (maybe 110 or 115, the info is contradictory online) to get into an EOI pool of immigrants.

Here is the point test

  1. Australia(esp. New Guinea)
  2. Turkey (eesp Istanbul)
  3. U.S.A. (esp. New Mexico and the Civil War battlegrounds)
  4. Ireland (esp. Kinsale… where my family came from)
  5. The Moon

Only 3 places left that I still need to see before I die.

1-Egypt - Pyramids specifically.
2-Tanzania - wanna see some lions. Remember hearing they have the largest concentration of lions in africa.
3-Japan

Iceland, to go trout fishing.

Israel, north to south, on a bicycle.

Peru, to ride the Guyaquil-Quito railroad

Russia, to ride the Trans-Siberian railroad.

Several funky islands in the Caribbean and the South Pacific…

To be perfectly honest, I’d go pretty much anywhere. I majored in anthropology because I love learning about people and culture, no matter where it is. ie, while driving across the US a couple years ago, I was fascinated with the tiny tiny towns in the middle of nowhere. I’d love to live in one of them for a while, just to see what it’s like.

That said, these are the countries I’d go first if I had an unlimited amount of money and time.

  1. Iran. I have a long standing crush on Iran. I have read loads on it and would just love love love to go. I know it’s technically possible to go now, but I think I would feel safer if the US renewed diplomatic ties. It looked likely just a couple years ago, but now I don’t know. Sigh.

  2. Cambodia. My other big “crush” country. I really, really, really want to go there. A lot! When Pol Pot died, I realized I didn’t know much about Cambodia, so I started reading about it, just a little on the net here and there, and soon I was checking out books from the library on it.

  3. Spain. I’ve wanted to go to the Alhambra since I was a little kid and saw pictures in my children’s enyclopedia. I started making plans to go this fall, but it didn’t work out financially.

  4. The Balkans. I decided earlier a while ago that my goal was to understand the Balkan conflicts, so I have read quite a bit on them since, and now I want to go. I think spending time there would help me understand it much better. I was absolutely green with envy when my friend ruadh went there a bit ago.

  5. St. Petersburg. I had a roommate in Israel who was originally from St. Petersburg, and she had just been there for a visit when we met. She showed me all her pictures and I’ve wanted to go since.

Spain: Ever since I spent a month there, there’s no where else I’d rather be. I love the people, the schedule, the language, the buildings, (most of) the food, and just the culture in general.

Iceland. My aunt keeps raving about the Icelandic horses, and I would love to ride them.

  1. Thailand: Since I’ve got a ticket and a departure date in a week I’d say it falls in the very likely category

  2. Taiwan: I’ve got a layover there first, so it actually should be #1

  3. The Philippines: Manila is a good place to renew a Thai visa and maybe I’ll get to see Imelda Marcos’ jewels and shoes.

  4. Japan: I’m a potter so I am dying to see the culture of potters there

  5. China: Ditto
There are lots of interesting sounding spots in Malaysia, but I am a little afraid to go because of the news I am hearing from over there.

Been to all three and highly recommend them.

For me:

Ireland, Scotland, Wales (been about everywhere else in Europe)

New Zealand, when they perfect teleportation.

Ireland
Scotland
England
France

Discounting the two countries I’ve been in; Australia, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.

England
Germany
Norway
Ireland
Greece
Italy

Also, since it doesn’t involve leaving my country, I want to see all 50 states. Actually, I don’t want to just see them. I want to visit at least one historical place in every state.

UK
Italy
Israel
Ireland
Ukraine
Costa Rica

All repeat visits, except for Ireland.

Israel (heritage as a Jew), Germany, Japan, England, Ireland, the Netherlands (stoner Mecca), Norway (heritage), Turkey, Russia (heritage as a Russian Jew)
Czech Republic (heritage), Romania, Vietnam, Italy, Puerto Rico (it counts),
Mexico (I know, I’m a Californian-Arizonan and I haven’t been there–travesty!),
Canada (hockey), Sweden, Switzerland, Finland, Greece, Australia, New Zealand,
France, Iran, Spain

Each state I haven’t been to (been to CA, AZ, NM, TX, OK, IA, IL, NE, CO, UT, NV, MN, FL (too young to remember, would like to go again), DC, MD, VA, PA, AL, WV, TN, MO, probably a couple of others I’m forgetting)

And any countries covered by additional spur-of-the-moment train rides and other such things.

I hope, but do not expect, to visit all of these places before I die.

Aie! What a mess! :smack: Preview is my friend!

Definitely Canada.

Also, I’d like to go to certain portions of the US: Hawaii, Colorado, portions of California.

For some reason, Asian countries just don’t interest me, although intellectually I know they’re full of really cool places to visit.

I would like to go to New Caledonia (Noumea) too. And pretty much any other french-speaking country.
Max.

New Zealand, Australia, Wales, Iceland and Russia.
