I have a mild knee sprain that’ll heal on its own, but my fascination with the human body must be appeased. I want to know exactly what’s wrong with me.
About two weeks ago, I was dancing pretty vigorously- yes, ladies, I’m a badass like that- and the next day, my knee ached. It still hurts today. I can bear weight, shift weight, squat, run, and climb with no pain whatsoever.
My doctor did a valgus stress test which caused mild pain, making her assess an MCL strain, but it wasn’t until today that I noted the pain is actually when I raise my calf behind me, as this lady is doing, not adduct it. The pain from raising my calf is MUCH more than the pain of the valgus stress test.
There is no pain if I do this passively, so I can kneel or raise my thigh in front of me, but my muscle can’t support the weight of my lower leg on its own. The pain is medial, but mainly in the back of my knee. It’s definitely not on the lateral side at all.
So is the doctor still right? Is it an MCL sprain, or does the new evidence change the diagnosis? Do I perhaps have a hamstring sprain, or another ligament I’ve never heard of? Again, I’d like to stress that I have a doctor and am following her recommendations, not yours. The injury will heal on its own anyhow, and I’m asking to sate my medical curiosity, not to heed your advice.
