One of the cats walked across my keyboard the other day (he does it often - this isn’t a one time thing). Now, whenever I start a program from the start menu, the menu stays up and the program starts behind it, which I find a bit annoying. Where is this setting and what is it called? I want it to go back to having the start menu disappear once the program starts.
Windows XP professional, btw.
Never mind. Figured it out. Looks like it’s a sticky shift key.
So the cat did not just walk across the keyboard

Lay a bath towel across your desk, and then lay the keyboard upside down on that. Then tap gently all across the bottom of the keyboard. Then tilt it at various angles, and tap again each time. Then shake the whole keyboard up and down, and side to side.
It’s astonishing the amount of dirt, crumbs, cat hair, etc. that you will find inside a keyboard. It’s a wonder they work at all!
Some keyboards are easy to clean; you can unscrew the enclosure and wipe down the internal parts with a lint-free cloth sprayed with rubbing alcohol. (Be sure to test on an inconspicuous area first to make sure the alcohol doesn’t blemish the case.) With many keyboards you can also remove the keys by gently popping them off; this is good if you need to clean underneath them. You can replace the keys by aligning them and gently pushing them back down.
