What did they expect from a night of Karaoke???

I invited 3 friends to join me for a rockin night of Karaoke at a local rural bar. 2 guy friends agreed, and then I said feel free to invite your wives/girlfriends. One wife decided at the last minute to come along. I think she was intrigued by my voice mail which was like this: “Hey Erik, you should go out Saturday night with me and Jack. We are doing something SUPERAWESOME. Give me a call.” Apparently his wife heard the message…and she was still interested after I emailed him my superawesome plan: Karaoke at the Tavern.

I’ve done a lot of karaoke. I know how to have fun. I’ll sing. I’ll dance if the situation is right. I laugh. drink. talk.

Well my three friends…apparently…they will NEVER sing at karaoke. they willl not dance. They will just sit there mocking the people singing and complaining that they are in a redneck bar. Sigh. And they are complaining to me all night that I did this to them.

What really did they expect?? I did say it was SUPER AWESOME…but did I somehow paint a picture in their heads that karaoke at the local tavern would involve Sarah Mclaughlin quality singers in a classy upscale environment??

Karaoke can be a total blast…if you have the guts to go up and embaress yourself…or be able to laugh at the other performances…and tolerate the horrible ones… It can be more fun if you dance at the occasional decent dance song. Hell, my buddy had his wife there…people were dancing…how could I know they would all simply hide in the corner…

Well, I had fun… I sang like 5 songs…that’s how you enjoy karaoke…

Well, its not like they were miserable the entire time…We were all laughing at their repeated jokes about being there…but that got tiresome to me… I did offer to leave early at one point…but then again I was thinking…This is what the inviitation for tonight was for! karaoke at the tavern.

Anyways, it was a memorable evening. I got my Karaoke fix. I learned my lesson. I don’t bring karaoke rookies out unless I have at least one other karaoke enthusiast with me…so I know I have at least one person to have fun wiith…especially not out to a rural redneck tavern…lol

Wish I coulda been there! Not counting my online singing, I haven’t had a good karaoke fix in a long time!

As for your buddies, well, different strokes and all that, but they didn’t have to be such party poopers! Karaoke isn’t American Idol, no one needs to act like Simon!

Everyone in my family sings waaay better than I do, but I am the only one that will get up and sing. I feel you.

Ugh, sing it friend!
Although i understand the embarrassment someone feels when being called upon to 'perform (heck i felt it every time) but that’s the whole point of it! Be able to laugh at yourself and be light hearted! If you know that 100% you won’t want to sing, either say it beforehand or don’t come along. (although i would rather them come and see the fun, maybe work up the courage to do it that particular event, or want to come next time and do sing!)

I need mah fix :frowning:

  • At least we had the option of the " Rent a private room to perform only infront your group" in a multi-room place.
