What did Trump and his followers think would have happened if the Jan. 6 coup attempt had succeeded?

They undoubtedly thought that they would have the thanks of the rest of the country for saving the country from being destroyed by evil.

That waiters everywhere would treat them with great deference as befitting their true greatness.

That when walking down the street, others would point at him and say, “There goes a very great man.”

That they would be recorded in the history books as the greatest of Americans who risked all in their quest to preserve right wing radicalism and their names would be studied by children long into the future.

That the post office would issue stamps with their pictures on them.

In other words, whatever village idiots think.

So pretty much what most revolutionaries think before the Thermidor, Great Purge, or cultural revolution.

At the time, there were only 98 Senators. The two Georgia seats had just had their runoff elections the day before. The two winners had not been certified or taken their seats.

ETA: Well, there may have been more than 98, but if so, one or both of those Georgia seats would have been filled by their predecessor. I can’t remember off-hand if they were open or not.
