I’m partial to Trinity Star for a girl and Jedidiah Sun for a boy.
Let’s see what my future SO would have to say to that!

Girl names I like:
Boy names I Like:
I have a bunch of others written down somewhere but I can’t be bothered to go search for it at the moment.
One name I can’t understand why my friend likes… is “Journey” for a girl. Odd.
The ex and I had three criteria when naming our kids:
Names they could live with as adults.
Monograms that don’t have other connotations, i.e. FAT, DUM, etc.
Names that, in themselves, wouldn’t be cause for schoolyard or playground teasing.
Consequently my kids have very non-trendy, names with no unusual spelling - thus making them somewhat unique among their generation. The very quality that the parents of the “cutsie-poo” names were aiming for and missed.
People can pronounce and spell their names correctly on the first try - a big help in the business world.
One of today’s comic strips (don’t remember which one) has a girl introducing herself as “Typhanni” No doubt there really is one spelled like that out there somewhere.
My mother’s husband’s name is Turkku. He has two brothers, Erikku and Markku.
I always liked Zellie, Natalie and Frannie. For a boy I would have named him Christopher after my brother. Don’t look like it’s gonna’ happen though. (but we’re still working on it!)
We have one boy name and one girl name picked out.
For a girl: Olivia Cathryn Elizabeth because I like the name Olivia (It’s classic but not too common and makes me think of–but does not actually mean–peace. You know, olive branch and all that.) Cathryn after my sister and Mr. Skeptic’s mother, and Elizabeth after my mother and a very good friend of ours.
For a boy: Saben Shawn Alexander. My husband used to work with a guy from Europe named Saben, and he decided he really liked it. It sounds like an attempt to be unique and ahead of the trends, but it’s actually a very old name. Shawn because that’s Mr. Skeptic’s first name, which is how it’s done in his family. (First boy gets dad’s first name as a middle name.) And Alexander because it goes well, and it means protector and defender of mankind.
My sister had a classmate one year named “Bryttnniee.” Seriously.
No kids yet but Pun and I have already decided on names.
For a girl - Abigail Florence and for a boy - Ian James. Not my favorite, but they’re nice. I wanted Ophelia Nadine for a girl and Caden Something (maybe Alexander? Thomas?) but he said no.
If I ever have two girls the second is gonna be Heloise Katherine so her nickname can be Hello Kitty (yes, I know I’m a sick, sick person).
Never having kids, but if I ever got to name someone else’s…
For a girl, either Cornelia Amethyst or Amethyst Cornelia. Cornelia was my mother’s name, and Amethyst was the name my parents had planned for the girl my mom miscarried before she had my older sister.
For a boy, I think probably Orion something. No clue on middle name. Orion because that’s what I would have been named if I had been a boy. Being female, I got Antares instead.
My daughter’s name is Sophia Caroline, and she is as pretty as her name.
Sophia is Greek, and means (among other things) “wisdom”.
Caroline is English (iirc) and means “Joyful song.”
Wisdom, joy, and song is the bases of her name, and I feel that we did pretty good job in choosing it.
That should be “basis” of course.
I’ve got a Pippa. a Jezza, a Hewie and a Tim. I’ll leave you lot to figure out what their real names are.
Seven
I simply adore all you people who gave your daughters the name Ruth. It was my grandmother’s name and it reminds me of her whenever I see it. In my opinion, it’s a great old name that doesn’t get used enough.
That being said, I don’t have any kids. I don’t even have a boyfriend. Children are far in my future. But if I suddenly discovered myself pregnant from a public restroom or alien invasion or something, these are the name I’d choose:
For the beautiful, intelligent, dark-haired, sweet-smelling, absolutely perfect daughters:
Lillian or Lillith, Agatha, Anna (my great-grandmother’s name), Katherine, Ellen, Andromeda (Should I marry the right man. This little girl would be called Ann.), Fern (A woman who is like a second mother to me.)
And for middle names, one my mother’s or grandmothers’ names: Barbara, Joanne, or Ruth.
For handsome, intelligent, compassionate, green-eyed, charmingly scampish sons:
James, Alexander, Marcus, Anthony (My g-father’s middle name), Joshua, Joseph, Jonathan . . .
Okay, so basically any traditional guy’s name that starts with J. Even Jedidiah. Or Zebidiah. Ooh, yeah. Zebidiah. For middles names, either my dad’s name (Mark), my mom’s dad’s first name (Delbert), my dad’s dad’s names (Richard Duane), or one of my brother’s names (Brad and Daniel). And, no, I wouldn’t name a boy Marcus Mark. And I definitely would not name any of my children Dakota or Mackenzie. Shudder.
Either Raven or Olivia or Rita or Tania. Raven is an idea my best friend gave me, and Tania, Rita and Olivia are a few of my favorite aunts. I’m also very partial to names that end in a. (Have you noticed?)
Oh, and I’d name a boy Luca, after my brother because I love him and it’s the only male name I could think of that ended in an a.
I read this to my 14-year-old, and she wanted to say that she thinks that’s a cruel thing to do to a living creature.
I met a little girl named Athena last night. She’s only four or so, but she’s going to have to work hard to stand up to that name (although she seems well on her way).
Well, since I’m German, my wife is Brazilian, I grew up in the States, and we currently live in the Netherlands, we needed names that could be pronounced and written in German, English, Dutch and Portuguese. This ruled out some of the more creative Brazilian names like “Wellington”, “Oricivaldo”, Odilson", etc.
We finally decided on Patrick and Lukas.
Patrick is a reasonably well known name in Brazil and easy to pronounce in any of the languages mentioned above.
Lukas is the same, but we do sometimes have to point out that it is spelled with a “k” and not a “c”.
i absolutely love the names Raven, Gwen, Iris (be happy it isnt “Pupil”) and Paige. im not sure for guys, but my {male} friend is called Sasha and thats a nice name for a guy or girl. and Cosmo Kramer!!! tee hee, he’s cool
ooh, and Winter is a nice name too. And Missy (short for… well, i dont know.)
