Basil in caprese salad, a handful of cherry tomatoes, a zucchini in the fridge to sautee in an omelet tomorrow, and a blackberry pie. To the blackberries’ credit, they are completely wild.
Tomato, basil, jalepeno. Not all together.
We planted way too much zucchini. And they grew too big. (We harvested them too late.)
We have so much zucchini that we are dumping most of it in the back-40 on our land.
Lesson learned!
Eat the blossoms!!
Post me some- the local slugs got all my courgette (as we call it here) plants when they were small. Postage might be an issue mind…
I’ve been eating a pretty wide variety of stuff to be honest; currently the tomatoes, potatoes, raspberries, plums, spinach, misc. greens and beans are on the menu, but I also got a pretty good strawberry, red, white and black currant, broad (fava) bean and pea crop earlier, as well as the herbs, of course.
I’m still getting the odd alpine strawberry, which seem to have all the flavour of a full size berry concentrated down to the size of a pea.
The tomato crop will be sadly limited due to blight, but I should still have cukes, summer crookneck squash and way more salad leaves to come. Hopefully we’ll get enough sun to ripen some winter squash as well, they have fruit growing, but the weather’s too unpredictable here.
Gardening is not very easy in my area. The land is nothing but red clay and the only way to grow anything is by covering the area with good dirt first. I manage to grow 6-8 tomatoes plants every year (love fresh tomatoes and even love the way the plants smell). I also started planting a few yellow squash and zucchini plants last year with moderate success.
Thankfully, I have a friend who lives about 10 minutes away with a huge garden. She brings me green beans, corn, okra and even more tomatoes. In a month or two, she’ll have turnip greens ready to share also! I may not be able to grow them, but I can cook them!!!
Eggs (I have chickens)
Tomatoes, red and orange
Spring onions
Various different types of lettuce I don’t remember the names of
Basil
Golden Marjoram
Oregano
Parsley
Chives
Garlic
Potatoes
Green peppers
Cherries
Spanish omelette with side salad and cherries as dessert.
Most days it’s just salad veg, herbs, tomatoes or eggs and many days none at all. I grow too much veg and end up feeding it to the chickens, which works out fine.
It looks like my yellow grape tomato plant has fizzled out. Odd plant - once it starts producing, segments of the plant start to die off, and now it’s just one big mass of shriveled brown. Seems to be normal for the variety as the ones I had last year did the same.
Regular red cherry toms are doing well, as are the orange tomatoes. The fourth plant is (I think) a more regular red beefsteak / big boy sort that’s got a lot of green balls hanging from it.
We tried eggplant, peppers, pumpkins, beans and lettuce last year, but they were all utterly dismal failures - think we harvested two edible beans out of all that. Didn’t waste any time or money with them this year. I think the main issue was the drought and water restrictions - we were under mandate to use less water than the year before or be fined.
