What did you replace or fix in 2006?

Many repairs from neglect were done this summer, and some not. I’m currently draining mothers furnance everyday, which is a pain in the ass. Hopefully she will get it replaced on the 28th, when scheduled. I’m glad it’s not extremely cold or I’d have to suck out the water multiple times daily. She didn’t replace it last winter when I told her it was in trouble. She didn’t replace it this fall when I told her it was dying. No she has to wait until it’s scuttled at Christmas to replace it. No CO so don’t worry about it.

I was seriously tempted tonight to buy a new set of stainless-steel cookware to replace the collection of miscellaneous hand-me-downs I am now using. Sears; $250 for a ten-piece set.

I’ll wait till Boxing Day to hit the sales.

[ul][li]Replaced the surround in the bathtub, plus the drywall behind it[/li][li]Replaced the old mahogany, 15-light, single-paned French doors with efficient double-glazed 10-light ones that don’t let the cold in[/li][li]Similarly replaced the front door (half-length 9-lights for the old one with 15-lights going all the way down)[/li][li]Mended the fence[/li][li]Replaced the two suitcases for my Aaton LTR-54 with a fitted Pelican case[/li][*]The MGB is nearing completion. I bought a fresh rebuilt overdrive transmission, and sold the one I had (for an earlier car) for more than what I paid for it a few years ago[/ul]

Gone through a couple of backpacks (using an Aussie one at the moment which has lasted longer than the others but even that’s starting to come to grief).
A fax machine. In this age of email, I still receive the occasional fax – and my old one I broke while installing a print cartridge. The whole carriage snapped off.
Walking shoes replaced (always).

My car.

I know when it is, but what is Boxing Day? Why “Boxing” ?

My bed.

The old box spring was turning into a torture device, & the frame was literally falling apart.

I’ve switched to a platform bed that was on sale.

I’m sleeping much better, & what’s worth more than a good night’s sleep?

I’m not sure. But that’s what we call the day after Christmas. It’s a statutory holiday, too.

Traditional festivities include going to the mall and lining up to buy stuff at fire-sale prices. (This differs from the day before Christmas, where we go to the mall and buy stuff at regular prices, because we have to have it ready under the tree. Personally, I think the Eastern Orthodox churches have the right idea: they schedule their Christmases for January. )

Replaced my central air unit. The new one doesn’t seem to keep my place any cooler than the old one…

Not a damn thing beyond a lightbulb or two.

I made plans this year to buy a bunch of new furniture, as well as a new computer system, and turn one of the rooms in our house into a permanent bedroom for our son, while turning another room into a sort of library/den. Come bonus time, I realize that the kid is still too young (only 4 months) to need his own room, the place he’s in now is warm and sociable (especially in winter), and the longer I wait to get a new computer (which isn’t a pressing need), the better a system I can get for the same money.

I’m going to upgrade my bicycle from a hybrid to a road bike, but that’s after New Year’s.

I think its an english hand me down, servants were given gifts by the manor born on the 26th.

Thanks for the replies re Boxing Day.

Ah, I also had to replace a blender. I hope there will be no more such surprises next year!
